1. Breastfeeding being natural doesn’t mean it always comes naturally.
Sometimes there are latch issues, supply concerns, pain, medical complications, or simply a completely different feeding journey than you imagined.
2. Your feeding journey may not look like the one you pictured while pregnant.
And that’s something I personally had to learn. Motherhood has a way of humbling all the plans we make before the baby actually arrives. 😂
3. How you feed your baby is not a measure of how much you love them.
Breastfeeding, pumping, formula, combination feeding, or medically supported feeding. The goal is a nourished baby and a supported mother.
4. Moms need support too.
Everyone asks, “Is the baby eating?” But somebody also needs to ask, “Mama, how are YOU doing?” Feeding struggles can be physically and emotionally draining.
5. Don’t let comparison steal your motherhood experience.
One woman breastfeeds for two years. Another tries for two weeks. Another doesn’t breastfeed at all. Their stories are different and motherhood is much bigger than how milk reached your baby.

last pointers
My breastfeeding journey wasn’t what I imagined, but it taught me something I wish every new mom knew:

You are still a good mother when motherhood doesn’t go according to plan. 💕

This Breastfeeding Awareness Month, let’s celebrate the moms who breastfeed and also hold space for the moms whose feeding stories looked a little different. 💛

Everywhere you look online, mothers are expressing deep burnout, exhaustion, and resentment toward the daily routine. But when you look closer, the problem isn’t the children, it’s the Western system.
Back home, you had built in aunties, neighbors, and affordable help. In the West, you are expected to work, raise toddlers, manage a home, and stay emotionally regulated with zero support.

If you don’t intentionally build your own structure, the routine will swallow you.

In our home, we stopped waiting for a village to appear and started building systems: strict 8 PM toddler bedtimes, rotating 5 simple toys so they play independently, and treating marriage like a synchronized team instead of a competition over who is more tired. You deserve peace in your home.

The next time you see a mama, check on them properly instead of “How are you?”

Growing up in Nigerian, public display of affection has always been something I see the men around me struggle with. And not because they don’t like it or don’t want to but because for most of them, it wasn’t something they knew how to.

As a proper certified lover girl on the other hand, I have longed to be shown public love for so long, I want the kisses in public, the tapping of butts and all of it, and so I finally had the conversation with my darling husband as to the needs of my heart as far as PDA is concerned!!!

Now, I hope we get to the end of this juice and see if my lovely husband keeps to his promise of loving up on me publicly….. I mean, he loves me so well in our tiny world, loving me openly before strangers shouldn’t be that much 🤞🏾

Are you a Nigerian wife?, and is your husband team PDA or also like mine??

SOME ADVICES I TOOK THAT I DON’T REGRET

1. I stopped pretending I wasn’t struggling just because “we don’t do that back home.”
2. I unlearned some of how I was raised, not everything from “back home”needs to be repeated.
3. Therapy isn’t a betrayal of my culture. Neither is asking for help.
4. I let them be embarrassed by the accent, the bold names, the traditions. one day they’ll be proud of it.
5. I stopped comparing my parenting to my mother’s , different country, different era, different rules.
6. I let my kids see me cry sometimes. It taught them emotions aren’t shameful.
7. I teach them the language early even if they resist it now, they’ll thank me later.

What’s one advice you took that has changed your motherhood journey so far??

To every mom;

• Wondering if I missed something or could have done something differently.

• Watching other children reach milestones while reminding myself that every child’s journey is different.

• Feeling like I’m never doing enough, even after therapy, appointments, research, and endless prayers.

• Trying to give one child the support she needs without making the other child feel unseen.

• Feeling guilty for being tired, overwhelmed, or needing a moment to breathe.

• Grieving the motherhood I imagined while wholeheartedly embracing the motherhood God has given me.

• Learning to celebrate every little win because every step forward matters.

💛Whether you’re raising a child with developmental delays or simply navigating the beautiful, messy journey of motherhood, you are not failing. You are loving, showing up, advocating, and doing the best you can. Give yourself the same grace you so freely give to your children.

Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right.
Isaiah 41:10.
