🐍✈️ Snake on a plane? Close… try snake in a suitcase.

After a trip abroad, a traveler discovered a venomous snake hidden in her luggage—far from its native habitat. That’s when the team at the Denver Zoo Conservation Alliance, an American Humane Certified™ facility, stepped in.

Situations like this highlight how wildlife can unintentionally hitch a ride during travel, creating risks for both people and animals.

Through strong local partnerships and specialized expertise, teams were able to safely rescue and rehome the snake, protecting the community while ensuring the animal receives proper care.

A real-world reminder of how collaboration, conservation and preparedness come together when it matters most.

On National Dog Rescue Day, we recognize the dedicated teams who show up for animals when they need it most. 🐾

Our Rescue Team is trained and ready to respond in times of crisis, deploying to support animals affected by disasters, providing emergency care and helping communities navigate uncertain moments.

From ongoing efforts like the recent Texas rescue of over 100 dogs and puppies to future responses still ahead, this work reflects a deep commitment to protecting animals and strengthening the bond we share with them.

"Nothing has provided the calm that Apollo has brought to my life." 💖🐕‍🦺

More than 6,300 veterans are lost to su***de each year, an average of 17+ every day. Right now, 17 veterans and retired first responders are urgently waiting to be paired with a specially trained Pups4Patriots™ service dog because support in a moment of crisis cannot wait.

Demand for service dogs continues to rise and wait times at many organizations can stretch months or longer. For heroes living with post-traumatic stress or traumatic brain injuries, every day without support can feel overwhelming.

Andrew served in the U.S. Army for 26 years, including deployments to Iraq and Kuwait. After decades of being trained to stay on guard, finding peace at home did not come easily.

The wait is finally over. 🫡

After nearly a year apart, Military Working Dog Vegas is officially home — reunited with Sgt. Eric, the handler he served alongside for four of his seven years protecting U.S. service members in Italy.

The reunion was everything we hoped for. Vegas wasted no time settling in, soaking up the comfort, safety and companionship he'd been missing for so long.

This moment was only possible because caring supporters stepped forward to help bring him home. Because of you, we are covering his lifetime veterinary care, giving this hero the peaceful retirement he deserves.

Meet Noceila and her service dog Legion, a powerful partnership rooted in trust, confidence and renewed possibility. 🫡🐾

Through American Humane Society’s Pups4Patriots™, she has been partnered with Legion, a Labrador Retriever after serving in the U.S. Army for more than eight years.

Since being paired, Legion has brought joy, stability and a renewed sense of independence into Noceila’s life. Trained to interrupt nightmares, provide deep pressure therapy and support situational awareness, Legion helps her navigate daily challenges with greater confidence and ease.

“Legion has opened my world in ways I never thought possible,” Noceila shared. “Everyday challenges feel more manageable and I’ve gained the confidence to do more for myself and my family.”

Together, they recently traveled to Washington, D.C., exploring museums and navigating public transportation, an experience that once felt out of reach.

We are honored to be part of Noceila and Legion’s Pups4Patriots journey and proud to support heroes on both ends of the leash. 🎖️
