Malala Yousafzai was top of her class and dreamed of becoming a doctor, inventor or politician.

But everything changed in 2007 when the Taliban took control of the Swat Valley in Pakistan where 10-year-old Malala lived, and banned girls from going to school.

Refusing to give up on her dreams, Malala spoke out against the terrorist group and began writing a blog called Diary of a Pakistani Schoolgirl to stand up for every girl’s right to get an education.

She almost paid for it with her life when a Taliban gunman shot her while she was taking a bus home from school in October 2012.

Since then, Malala has travelled the world in support of education for all and establishing the Malala Fund.

In 2014 she became the youngest Nobel Peace Prize laureate at the age of 17.
