Our free Summer Cookout will take place rain or shine on Saturday evening. In the event of inclement weather, we will be holding the event inside our gymnasium.

After the Second Continental Congress voted to declare independence on July 2, 1776, John Adams wrote to his wife, Abigail, saying, that the event "ought to be commemorated, as the Day of Deliverance by solemn Acts of Devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with Pomp and Parade, with Shews, Games, Sports, Guns, Bells, Bonfires and Illuminations from one End of this Continent to the other..."

The official Declaration of Independence wasn't approved until two days later and wasn't signed until early August.
