We are happy to support both children and adults in need as well as local fundraisers. I love sports…I love watching sports, playing sports, collecting memorabilia and learning about athletes. In the past, I’ve enjoyed supporting friends and local community members by obtaining memorabilia for golf outings as well as for friends in need. My first experience with obtaining memorabilia was back in 2
004, when my brother-in-law suddenly passed away at the age of 33. Sadly, he left behind a beautiful 11-month-old daughter. A golf outing was organized to raise funds for her education. This emotional event led me on my first journey in seeking out memorabilia to auction off in support of the golf event. I wrote letters to the NY Yankees, NY Mets, NY Giants etc. explaining the circumstances surrounding the loss of my brother-in-law. I was overwhelmed with the positive responses from these organizations and their willingness to help. As time went on, I had the privilege of helping many friends and family members in difficult circumstances. One, that I am most proud of, is helping a high school friend’s son, suffering from Leukemia, receive a phone call from Mariano Rivera in his hospital bed. Mariano met with my friend’s family as well as donated signed memorabilia. When I realized how much that gift had meant to that little boy and how it had raised his spirits in the face of such a terrible illness,I realized that I could make a difference in someone’s life. To see the look on a sick or disabled person’s face when they receive an autographed treasure from their favorite athlete is indescribable. The timing of the inception of The Parke Project comes at an interesting point in my family’s life. Actually, we think that this mission may have been a message from God. January 2020 started with my father-in-law being diagnosed with terminal brain cancer. My wife and I (during Covid) quickly converted our garage into an apartment for my mother-in-law and father-in-law who were living in Florida. Within 3 months of their arrival, both my mother-in-law and father-in-law passed away. In January 2021, my eldest daughter asked my wife and I if we could go to church the following day. The priest at our local parish gave a sermon that morning asking the parishioners, “What do you need in your life to feel fulfilled?” My wife shared that at that moment the idea of The Parke Project flooded her heart and mind. She shared her inspiration with me as soon as we exited the church. We thought, what better way to heal our hearts than to put a smile on the faces of those who need one.
