Commissioner Craig Craft Memorial Scholarship Fund

Craig J. Craft was born on May 7th, 1964 in Brooklyn, NY. In 1982, at the age of 18, Craig joined the Wantagh Fire Department where he would go on to serve in various capacities for more than 34 years. He held the ranks of Lieutenant, Captain, Assistant Chief, and until his passing, the rank of Fire Commissioner in which he served since being elected in 1994. In the year 2011, Craig was appointed by Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano to the position on Commissioner of the Office of Emergency Management. There, he faithfully served the residents of Nassau County, guiding them through countless events, most notably Hurricane Sandy. Among many other professional achievements, Craig was instrumental in securing grant funding for Nassau County, known as the SAFER Grant, which covers the cost of tuition at Nassau Community College for active members of the volunteer fire and EMS services. Craig's interminable desire to provie the Volunteer Fire Service with a means of recruitment and retention has, to date, allowed over 3000 members of Nassau County's fire and EMS services to attend college tuition free. The Commissioner Craig Craft Memorial Scholarship Fund was established to provide the same opportunity to well-deserving individuals who serve our communities in various forms of volunteerism, as they pursue education in a discipline related to Public Service. Please help support our mission, and in doing so help to keep Craig's legacy alive.
