Our Story

The Foundation for Senior Wellbeing is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization whose mission is to serve the health, physical, intellectual and social needs of seniors in the North County region of San Diego (primarily in the communities of Oceanside, Carlsbad, Vista, San Marcos, Escondido and surrounding communities). The Foundation is dedicated to improving and enhancing the lives of a growing population of seniors in need throughout North San Diego County. The Foundation identifies, funds, and operates educational, social, and recreational programs.

The Information Resource Center (IRC) is a valued resource for North County (San Diego) seniors and their families. Dedicated to improving seniors' quality of life, the IRC provides free support in the areas of: housing, transportation, food insecurity, medical issues and more. Guidance is provided by staff or volunteers trained to communicate with seniors using patience and listening skills to research and recommend suitable resources. Our team works with compassion and dedication to directly support seniors (and their families or caretakers) with resources and guidance to find solutions. Center volunteers follow up by phone on every inquiry to ensure clients find resolution.

In addition to the IRC, we run the Senior Disaster Resource Alliance and contribute to a Senior Crisis Fund. We host two major annual events: the Summer Celebration (Heritage Park in San Marcos) and during the holidays, a Festival of Trees (Vista). The Foundation is an active community partner with Live Well San Diego (NorCAN), Interfaith Community Services (Project CARE), Alliance for Regional Solutions and with many local Senior Centers.

While separate from the city-operated San Marcos Senior Center, the Foundation and its volunteers still work closely with them and sponsor some programs there, including weekly Bingo activities. The Foundation is governed by a Board of Directors and staffed by two employees: a Program Manager, who oversees the IRC, and an Executive Director. Major sources of funding for the Foundation include our annual Festival of Trees event, donations, grants and endowments. Please stop by our office Monday through Friday, 9 am to 1 pm at 131 Richmar Ave., San Marcos CA 92069. Our offices are generously hosted in the Panorama Teen and Family Resource Center, located near the San Marcos Senior Activity Center.
