Griefhab Griefhab™ is a Michigan-based and virtual nonprofit providing 24/7 grief and mental health support for all kinds of loss. Because No One Should Struggle Alone!

Founded by Samantha Ruth, Griefhab™ offers therapy, groups, crisis care, and community events. I’m Samantha Ruth, and I’m a Psychologist, Speaker, Podcast Host of The Be Ruthless Show, and Best Selling Author. I help people around the world turn their pain into their power by guiding them to be their true selves not who they think they need to be, by embracing their differences, and by living life on their own terms. My mission is to change the way the world views both grief and mental health, so people can openly speak about whatever issues they have and get the help they not only need but deserve without fear of judgment, labels, and repercussions. I am the proud founder of Griefhab, a 24/7 community open to anyone who has experienced a loss. After personally living through this, I realized just how much support I needed on a daily basis. I vowed to create these services so that others would have more support available in their times of need. In my free time, you can find me and my pups, Sassy and Dallas, on one of our outdoor adventures. We love living in Colorado and never miss an opportunity to explore our beautiful surroundings. Music fuels my soul, family means everything to me, and honoring my late husband, Jim, and making him proud gives my life daily purpose. Contact me to learn how to work with me individually or to learn how to have me as a keynote speaker at your event or organization at [email protected]

A therapist told her client that there was no more she could do to help. In fact, her words were that my client was “beyond help.” No referrals were provided. No guidance. No support.

Simply abandonment.
After all of the other things in life that brought someone to treatment - just tossed away.

A client has FMLA through her employer, yet they won’t allow her any accommodations to support her health. She loves her job and also needs it for the health insurance.

A lawyer charges a client every second they interact and pays herself before providing her client assistance. She’s abrasive not supportive, and when her client happens to share the story to someone who knows another attorney….. something sounds fishy.

It’s World Mental Health Day. I’ve seen posts about why it’s ok to talk about your feelings. And it’s ok to share about your mental health.

Friends - it’s NECESSARY. People are being mistreated, under treated, abandoned, neglected.

Griefhab is counseling PLUS concierge services. We’ll help you resolve whatever it is you’re dealing with - a flat tire or an FMLA issue. We partner with organizations that support our mission.

And we NOW ACCEPT INSURANCE! Including Medicaid.

But our partners help us make it so that we don’t turn anyone away. If you don’t have insurance - please reach out.

Thank you to everyone who makes it possible. We’re currently assisting these cases, helping many people get connected with disability attorneys, and seeing multiple uninsured clients every month - plus so much more!

Life looks a lot different 6 months later.

6 months ago today, everything changed. On an ordinary walk. Dallas was viciously attacked by a neighbor’s loose dog - and we’re finally on the path to having all of our answers.

(I cannot share this update without including that there are a group of people out there claiming Dallas never was attacked. I’ve been continuously harassed and I’ve stayed silent - because it doesn’t dignify a response. It’s beyond disgusting, hateful, and cruel. It is a reflection of these people’s character. My silence is a reflection of mine)

We saw a new specialist Wednesday, Because….. you’ll never believe this. Another loose dog came out of its house on our walk a week or two ago. Nothing happened, but Dallas was absolutely terrified.

The anxiety caused a bit of a setback. Because, just like with us humans, anxiety impacts our furbabies breathing. And the attack did something to her nose obviously impacting her breathing.

I moved home and worked remotely all summer to be by her side. (There are so many stories to fill you in on, including a second f-ing move because of a sewage backup. Complete sh*tshow…. Literally!)
Last night, I said to one of my closest friends, “life is looking up.” (Finally!)

We’re waiting for some bloodwork to come back to confirm everything, and then I’ll fill you in on it all. I’ve spent all of the Jewish Holidays with my family, and my brother’s birthday! I’m enjoying the normal things - like my niece’s soccer game yesterday (great win!) and my dad getting lost on the walk back to the car.

Some things never change.

Life still looks really different 6 months later. I never thought I’d be back home. I also never thought I’d leave…..

I feel Jim with me always. For so long, I thought he wanted me to stay in Colorado. But when a friend dropped off soup this week while I’ve had a stomach bug, and another came over to change light bulbs I can’t reach 😂 I could literally hear Jim saying that this is home…..until I’m back in his arms ❤️

(I can’t wait to tell you about the deer! Omg. And the frogs! So many things!)

An amazing outlook on mistakes ❤️

As we start a new week, I wanted to share a little update on our marching season so far.

This Friday (9/25), we’ll not only be preparing for another home football game, but we’ll also welcome our CMS 8th Grade Band to perform during pregame and join us for the Fight Song at the conclusion of our halftime performance.

And speaking of halftime… we’re proud to present our entire show this Friday night.

One of the biggest steps we’ve been taking in preparation is slowly taking away our folios - the stands that hold our music - as we continue working toward memorizing the show. For students, that can be a pretty vulnerable feeling. There’s something comforting about having the music right there in front of you.

But I was incredibly proud of how our students handled it during Wednesday night’s rehearsal.

Just before that rehearsal, I recently came across a post that said, “Kids aren’t afraid of failure. They’re afraid of being seen trying.”

I’ve thought about that statement a lot over the past few days. As their teacher, it makes me think about the culture we are creating in our band room. Are we creating a place where students feel comfortable making mistakes? Where they can step outside of their comfort zone, be vulnerable, try something difficult, and know that the people around them will support them?

Because the truth is: band is hard.

There are so many moving parts that have to come together - music, movement, visuals, timing, coordination, and trust. We ask our students to pursue something that, at times, can feel incredibly difficult.

And sometimes we miss.

Sometimes we make mistakes.

Sometimes it doesn’t work.

And that’s okay.

My hope for this week is that we continue to learn, continue to support one another, do the hard things, and conquer them together. And if we don’t get it right today, we come back tomorrow and try again.

Because we’re not just pursuing a performance.

We’re pursuing something greater than ourselves.

And honestly…

Band kids are the best kids.

You should be 55 today. I should be sharing karaoke stories and memories of Jimtember celebration moments like this….. what I wouldn’t give…

It’s the 9th birthday that I’m celebrating you instead of celebrating you WITH you. I’ve come so far from the years of “just surviving” this day. And I still reach for you every - single - morning - as I wake up, only to open my eyes and remember my reality.

You are celebrated every day. You’re a part of every moment, every decision, every breath. Today is just an excuse to celebrate with the rest of the world.

Some people ask when I’ll stop living every moment for you. When I’ll talk about you less. When I’ll take off my wedding ring.

Never.

You are, and Foreveralways will be, my world. I know you’re singing away and celebrating this day the way only you can -

Happy 55th, Jim Ruth - I love you with every fiber of my being. Foreveralways. ‘When mountains crumble to the sea, there will still be you and me’ ❤️

8 years ago today, this bundle of love rescued me and Sassy…..and I can’t imagine my world without her.

She’s had a year!! I’m happy to share that she’s starting to be ok around people again! I expected her to be afraid of other dogs, but after such a vicious attack….she was afraid of all things, including people.

The healing and training will continue, but she’s definitely becoming her silly self again. Thank you universe - and thanks to everyone who has checked on us.

The way to my heart is through Dallas 🤣🐾❤️

After being off of social media all summer - I’m easily reminded that the invisibles still remain invisible…..while I have alerts that National Beard Day is in 4 days.

I’m grateful to see so many organizations and individuals posts acknowledging National Grief Awareness Day. Last year there were a handful, and years before that there were none.

Progress is like healing - a journey!

As Griefhab moves into fall, we’ll continue to make noise and break stigmas - for ALL of the invisibles.

On this National Grief Awareness Day, please remember that grief is also an (invisible) journey…. You only know who is struggling if they choose to share.

In this world full of expectations and stigmas - many carry their grief silently. Today is a day to think about those we’ve loved and lost, as well as a day to reach out to those impacted by loss ❤️
