Nesting season is going to be starting soon here in northeast South Dakota!

If you’re a local farmer, or know someone who is, please remember and share this as fieldwork starts up:

If you hit a nest while haying or tilling, or come across one that’s going to be mowed over, please collect any remaining eggs and call Second Chance Flight.

We will come pick them up and handle the rest, hatching, raising, and releasing them back into the wild.

We can also now rescue both waterfowl nests and gamebird nests (pheasants, turkeys, grouse, partridge, etc.) when they’re found during active field work.

Please help us give these birds a chance! Feel free to save and share my number :

Hi guys! Is there anyone in Watertown that could pick up and transport this poor guy to me in Wallace at 6 pm tonight? I got a call that he was found in someone's yard with a injured wing. I'd like to try and help him, but the wing will need to be braced and set as soon as possible for him to have a chance at recovery. I'm not going to be able to get to Watertown to pick him up myself tonight. If you can help please PM me! Thank you!

This morning HB 1265 was officially signed into law by South Dakota Governor Larry Rhoden!
My family and I drove to Pierre for the signing ceremony, and it was such a cool moment to see it finally happen after all the work that went into it. This has been a long journey, but also a really educational and rewarding one. I’ve met so many great people along the way and I’m incredibly thankful for all the encouragement and support I’ve received.

I’m especially grateful to the prime sponsors and friends of ours, Dylan Jordan and Kevin Jensen, for believing in this and helping guide it through the legislature.

Thank you to the co-sponsors who stood behind the bill: Julie Auch, Aaron Aylward, Josephine Garcia, Travis Ismay, Phil Jensen, Brandei Schaefbauer, Tesa Schwans, and Tom Pischke. I also want to thank Kadyn Wittman and the other representatives who spoke in favor of the bill on the House floor, and all of those who voted to pass it!

Thank you as well to South Dakota Game, Fish, and Parks for working with me on this and supporting the final version of the bill, especially Tom Kirschenmann and Secretary Kevin Robling.

This is a cause I really believe in. So many nests are accidentally destroyed during farming operations each year, and now I’ll be able to legally rescue pheasant and other ground-nesting gamebird eggs alongside the waterfowl. My dream is to save and return to the wild as many birds as possible. I’m so excited for this season and for the future of Second Chance Flight.

HB 1265 passed the Senate committee with unanimous support today, and was placed on consent!

I want to say a huge thank you to everyone who sent letters of support, everyone who signed the petition, and to all of the legislators and conservation groups who stood behind this, especially Representative Dylan Jordan and Senator Kevin Jensen. I also want to thank the South Dakota Game, Fish & Parks for their work on this and their support!

I’ll now be able to legally rescue pheasant and other ground-nesting gamebird eggs this year, along with waterfowl eggs like I did last year. Please share and help spread the word on this!

This is such a big win for conservation in South Dakota, and I couldn't be more excited!

HB 1265 passed the House today! 54–11!!!
Thank you to Representative Dylan Jordan for believing in this enough to carry it, to the co-sponsors and Representatives who spoke and voted in support, and to everyone who stepped up to help move this forward, through calls, letters, and encouragement.

On to the Senate!

HB 1265 passed the House Agriculture Committee today with a 9–1 vote and moves to the House floor tomorrow.
We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who took the time to write letters and voice support, and a sincere thank you to Rep. Dylan Jordan for carrying this bill.
