JOIN US Monday October 26th to celebrate (the tail end of) Hispanic Heritage Month! We will hear from our own Gloria Salazar, who was recently named Commissioner to Governor Moore’s Commission on Hispanic and Latin American Community Affairs. A former long time New Mexico resident, she will present us with Hispanic & Indigenous Perspectives: Intro to N. Mexican Culture. All are welcome. If you cannot attend in person, please email [email protected] for the zoom link.

THIS SATURDAY Join us for the Autumn Glory Parade!! The Mountain Lake Park Trolley is ready to proclaim GCNAACP's presence in the community and our commitment to kindness, respect and unity for all people. MLP Mayor Don Sincell is ready to be our chauffeur! Line up starts at 11:00 at the intersection of East Lake Street and 219 (two blocks north or Memorial Drive). Number 13, our unit number, will be painted on the street. Be there by 12:30.

The parade ends at Fox's pizza on 219 and afterward you are welcome to continue watching the rest of the parade, then make your way to a GCNAACP member's apartment near Alder and 2nd street for an AFTER PARTY with food and fellowship. For exact directions to the apartment, email [email protected].

JOIN US for the Autumn Glory Parade, this Saturday October 10. Mountain Lake Park has offered GCNAACP the use of their Trolley to be part of the parade! If you never thought you could walk with us, this is your chance to proudly RIDE on the route and proclaim our mission of inclusion, equity, and diversity .

PARADE LINE-UP: Between 11:30 - 12:30pm, meet us at the Trolley near Lake Street on 219. It is about 2 blocks north of Memorial Drive. Look for #13 painted on the street. Parade time is 1-3pm (approx).

Hispanic Heritage Month in here! National Hispanic Heritage Month is an annual observance in the U.S. from September 15 to October 15. The observance began as a week in 1968 under President Lyndon B. Johnson and was expanded to a month in 1988.

The official theme for National Hispanic Heritage Month in 2026 is "Unidos Somos Mios or Together We Are More". This theme highlights the power of community, connection, collaboration, and the collective strength of diverse Hispanic and Latino backgrounds

Garrett County NAACP Branch 7139 honors and celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month by promoting a vision of heritage that is inclusive, dynamic, and rooted in the lived experiences of our communities. Watch for details for our October meeting where we will focus on Hispanic Heritage.
