Pack 890 hung out at Cline Park tonight to wrap up our school year! We missed a few Cubs tonight but we will see them soon! Many thanks to making it a wonderful experience this year- stay tuned for some fun activities to celebrate our Nation’s 250th!

Pack 890 has been busy! Between trail cleanup at Reinhardt University, spring camp out, and some fishing at the best fishin’ pond in Waleska, we’ve been having some fun!

Unlike most American kids, 12-year-old Robert Wada participated in Boy Scouts behind a barbed wire fence at the Poston concentration camps in Arizona during World War II.

Wada and his family were among the more than 120,000 Japanese American people, most of them United States citizens, uprooted from West Coast regions during World War II after President Franklin Roosevelt issued Executive Order 9066 on February 19, 1942.

Under the constant gaze of armed guards, inmates started schools, newspapers, sports teams, theater groups, and other civic organizations.

When Wada and other boys at Poston decided to establish a Boy Scout troop, they designated themselves as “Troop 100” to honor the 100th Infantry Battalion, a U.S. combat unit comprised of mostly second-generation Japanese Americans. In this Boy Scout uniform in our National Museum of American History, Wada went camping, earned merit badges, and participated in parades honoring American soldiers departing for World War II.

As an adult, Wada enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves and served as a tank crewman during the Korean War. He proudly participated in veterans' organizations until his death in 2023.

We challenge our friends to post a positive picture or memory of Scouting in response to today’s news.

Our dads were Eagle Scouts, our family Is full of proud men who served in both Army and Navy as enlisted men and officers. We are the proud parents of Scouts, one who worked hard and earned his Eagle, all of whom are wonderful members of society. I was a Girl Scout and got my outdoor skills and programming training at YMCA Camp Kern in Ohio- but would have LOVED the opportunity to earn my Eagle and outdoor experiences through Scouts had it been available at the time.

The thought of this breaks my heart.

What a fun day at Scoutacular Science Tellus Science Museum! Pack 890 learned about fossils, rocks & minerals, fingerprinting, race cars, space exploration, dinosaurs, and giant trucks! 2 of our Scouts were brave enoughto join in an electricity experiment! Everyone had a fantastic time!
