Feeling isolated, alone? Perhaps the loneliness is even worse when you go around people–how sad it is to feel alone in a crowd of people! To experience yourself in a way that feels like you are outside of the events and joy of others is terribly lonely.

I know that pain. As a young adult my depression distanced me from the people and events happening right around me. If this is you, I want you to know that there is HOPE.

Today in John 16, Jesus prophecies about how everyone would abandon Him and He would be alone in His trial, whipping, and on the cross. Then He said, “Yet I am not alone, for my Father is with Me,” (Jn 16:32).

Whatever you are going through today, I want you to know that you are not alone. Just like He was with Jesus, your Father in Heaven is with you. Go to Him in prayer, song, and worship. Seek His presence!

*** A Prayer: Lord, thank You for always being with me. Forgive me for doubting You. Help me through this season. Breathe life into my life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

While I travel around the Holy Land, I am finding the vine and branches chiseled into stone as a symbol for Christ. In modern times, we often prefer the Christian symbols of the cross or a dove, but what would it mean to refocus and think of Jesus as the vine?

Here in John 15, Jesus makes an “I Am” statement: “I AM the vine.” This is part of His divine identity. As Jesus explains Himself to us He says that He is the vine and we are connected to Him as branches.

He is our source for strength, growth, and life. Do you need strength, growth, and life right now?

Jesus also says that it’s to His Father’s glory that we “bear much fruit,” (Jo 15:6). The images I see all over Israel are usually of a vine and a cluster of grapes. You see, it’s not enough to just be strengthened and personally thriving in Jesus (the vine and the branch), He wants us to bear fruit. That fruit is for the blessing of others.

Christian, you are the Lords. If you are feeling low or down, focus on drawing life through that vine. He is the source of life for us! But know this—all of that life and love that will come to you is not just to make you a big branch, but to create fruit through you. This means that God has a plan for your life. You might not know what that is right now (and that’s okay!), but trust that there is a plan!

***A Prayer: Lord, thank You that I am not alone in this world. Thank You for being a source of love and life for me. Fill me up with that today, Lord. Help me to be fruitful and to be a blessing to others. Guide my path and give me faith to trust that You are the one leading me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Ever wonder why people who do not know Jesus on the one hand “don’t get you” and on the other come to you for advice or prayer? It’s because you have the Holy Spirit inside of you!

Jesus said He would not leave us as orphans. Although He was heading back to Heaven, Jesus said He’d send the Holy Spirit who He calls the “Παράκλητον” (helper, comforter, advocate).

This One advocating for us before the throne of God is the Spirit of Truth. Jesus says that the world doesn’t accept, see, or know Him. If you’re a believer this Spirit of Truth μένει (remains, lives, abides) inside of you. You then have access to that spiritual help and comfort, access to God through the Holy Spirit--but the world does not.

Believer, you are not alone and you have access to the throne room of God right now–-through the Παράκλητον, the Advocate who remains with you and in you always.

***A Prayer: Father, thank You for sending Your Son to die for my sins. Jesus, thank You for sending Your Holy Spirit so that I am not alone. Holy Spirit, please comfort me today and let me know that You are here---please advocate (go on my behalf) to the Father as I pray for ___. Lord, hear my cries! In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Imagine a love that sees souls and not race, gender, or social class. A love that is selfless, and dies to itself for the other. A love that is pure and good and right. That is “agape” love.

While there is romantic love (eros) and the love between family and friends (philos) in the Bible, agape love is a divine love. Not only does it come from God, but the Bible says that God *is* agape love.

This world is broken and leaves people hurt and empty. But Jesus came to bring hope and healing. Not to promote empire or wealth, but to save people, to save souls. He did this through agape love, and now in today's Bible reading (Jn 13:34-35) He is calling us to be filled with His Spirit and live out agape love.

How can you be the hands and feet of Christ in your world today? Who can you agape love?

***A Prayer: Lord, thank You for loving me. Help me to share Your agape love with others through my words and actions. Reveal to me how I can be Your hands and feet in the world. Give me the desire and courage to do that. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

What if you are missing out on your blessings??? Is it *easier* for you to Give than to receive? (“Oh, no thank you, I’m fine.”) If so, you’re in good company.

In John 13, Peter tried to stop Jesus from washing His feet. But Jesus told Peter that he needed to receive this act of service to be a part of Him and that “whoever accepts anyone I send accepts Me,” (Jn 13:8, 20).

Friend (I’m talking to myself here), if we do not accept the person blessing us in Jesus’ name we are rejecting Him! Oh, no!

We pray and pray for blessings, intervention, healing, and so forth. But then, God sends someone to bless us, to lighten our load, to encourage us and we shy away from them, “I’m fine…”

When I was pregnant the twin parenting books all said: when someone (anyone) offers you help you say, “Yes, please.” That was *very* hard for me. But I did. And thank God in Heaven that He sent people to help and taught me to say, “Yes, please!”

Let's open our hearts and minds to not only giving and doing for others but also allowing others to give and do for us–-because this is how we can more fully experience Christ in our lives.

***A Prayer: Lord, thank You for teaching me to both Give and Receive. Help me to be able to do both. Open my eyes and heart to where I can bless someone else today, and humble me so that I can gracefully say, “Yes, please” and “Yes, thank you,” the next time someone offers to help or encourages me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Why do some people stay silent about being a Christian? Sometimes people are worried that if they profess Christ their friends, family, or co-workers will reject them. In today’s passage, Jesus said some of the Pharisees believed, but they were more worried about praise from people than praise from God.

It’s the same today. Sometimes people have a “secret” faith in Jesus. They enjoy church and prayer and Bible verses privately or with a few Christian relatives or friends, but they are too afraid of what other people would think to live openly as a Christian.

If this is you, I want to encourage you to be brave–-to stand proudly as a child of the Light so that you can shine truth and love and peace. Someone you know might not like it, but so what? Imagine how awesome it will feel to SHINE!

Or, if this sounds more like someone you know, don’t be judgy with them. Be patient and loving. You don’t know what they have been through or what they fear. Pray for their healing and blessing so that they can be strong in the Lord.

***A Prayer: Lord, thank You that You came for all, including me. Give me the courage to stand proudly as Your child. Shine Your light and love and truth through me. Help me to love those who are struggling in their faith and to be a patient encourager. In Jesus’ name, Amen!

Are you ready to realize your full potential, to get out of behaviors that tear you down so that you can truly grow and live? In John 12, Jesus says that while one seed alone is "dead," once planted, the seed grows and produces fruit. That sounds good! Now how do we get there?

So here’s the thing about following Jesus: It’s Hard. It’s difficult to let go of some of the things in life that the Bible says tear us down: gossiping; ungodly relationships; partying; immodest clothing; swearing; yelling; vengeance; mixing Christianity with other gods or spirits; greed; and the list goes on.

Getting out of these things might mean a lot of change. It might mean people look down on you for choosing Christlike-living. BUT who will those same people come to when they are hurting and need prayer or wisdom? You.

Do you truly want to grow and experience a life lived in the spirit (love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control)? Then it’s time to let go of selfish desires and worldly values that ultimately tear you down and leave you “dead” inside. You need to commit to Christ–-not just your eternal destiny, but your everyday life.

Is there a change that you need to make today? Is God piercing your heart right now? Let’s pray!

***A Prayer: Lord, thank You for offering me Life. Help me to let go of the things that hold me down. Set me free, Lord! Bring me supportive Christian friends and community and help me to let go of ___. Fill me with your Spirit and set me on a healthier path. In Jesus’ name, Amen!

Our world is filled with fear, pain, and grief. Have you ever wondered where God is in all of this? I believe that Jesus is standing with us, weeping.

Illness, Death, Grief. In today’s Bible reading, Jesus’ friend Lazarus was sick and died, leaving his unmarried sisters and his community grieving. When Jesus arrived, His response gives us the shortest verse in the Bible, “Jesus wept,” (Jn 11:35).

This is a broken world. Jesus came and gave His life to fix it. But, this doesn’t happen all at once, and for now, despite the atrocities and cruelty and death, souls are being born and loved and saved. So when you find yourself in a dark place, remember that the sun always rises. Hold onto Life, Love, and Hope–-they are real, and they overcome.

As you grieve and hurt, know that you are not alone. Your God weeps with you.

***A Prayer: Lord, thank You, that You weep with me. Comfort me in my pain and shine a light in the darkness. Bring me life and love and hope. Reveal Yourself to me and give me strength and community. In Jesus’ name, Amen!

Jesus came to give you LIFE! Before Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead, He said to Martha, “I Am the Resurrection and the Life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?” (Jn 11:25-26). Martha said “Yes,” that she believed that her brother would rise again in the future. However, Jesus was going to raise him that same day.

While we may not experience bodily resurrection today, we can experience a spiritual resurrection, a spiritual new life right now.

You see, resurrection is about LIFE. In Christ, the old goes away and the new comes (2 Co 5:17). In Christ, the old self is put off like an old coat and a renewed mind is put on in its place (Ep 4:22-24).

So many of us think and say bad things about ourselves: “I’m stupid. I’m ugly. No one would choose me.” LIES from the pit of hell!

Jesus wants you to replace those old lies with His TRUTH, for you to say: “I am fearfully and wonderfully made. God created me with a purpose. Through Christ I am able to fulfill that purpose. I am smart. I am talented. I am able.”

Can you say these truths out loud right now to start owning them? (Literally, I’m asking you to stop and say them out loud right now. Did you do it?)

***A Prayer: Lord, thank You for dying to give me a new life. Help me to let go of the harmful words and phrases that I say to myself. Help me to embrace Your truth about who I am. Fill me with Your Spirit and heal me. Resurrect my soul! Heal my mind! Give me a fresh start! In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Jesus says: “I give them eternal life and they will never *ever* perish–-into eternity–-and Never will anyone seize (sn**ch, rob) them out of my hand.”

If you are the Lord’s child, nothing and no one (not even yourself) can change that. Jesus paid a high price for you on the cross to be filled with the Holy Spirit and to have access to Heaven. Here in John 10:28 Jesus assures us of the eternality—the foreverness–-of our relationship with Him.

Friends, many people fear that for some reason or another God is going to reject them. That God might have liked them when they were “good” but now that they did (or didn’t do) something, surely they are “going to hell”–-that they are damaged goods that God wouldn’t want. I rebuke that thinking! That’s a lie from the pit of hell!

JESUS says once you are His child, you will “not-not” or “never ever” (οὐ μὴ) be utterly lost into eternity. Rest assured of this–-Christ Jesus will never leave you nor forsake you–-He loves you on your good days and most especially on your bad. You are loved! You are wanted! You were worth dying for!

***A Prayer: Lord, thank You that you died on the cross for me, that You love me just as I am. Help me to understand and accept Your love for me. Heal me from self-doubt and self-destruction, and give me the joy of knowing that I have been chosen and I have an eternal home with You. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
