Bring your friends to church! What if church isn’t just about your personal experience but a witness to *guests* of God’s reality?

In 1 Cor 14, the Apostle Paul is setting the Corinthian church straight on a few things—and one has to do with the people we invite.

Paul says to serve God in an orderly way, where everyone’s gifts have a chance to shine, and with a prophetic voice, so that your guests (which presumes we are each inviting new people) “...will fall down and worship God, exclaiming, ‘God is really among you!’” (1 Cor 14:25).

Eeeek!!!! Am I personally bringing new people to church???? When was the last time I brought a guest to church? Aside from the important point that church should be a space where everyone gets to use their gifts and the prioritizing of the prophetic voice of God, are we inviting new people?

Let’s get started church! Let’s do what the Apostle Paul says and make certain that church is a space where, “Everything must be done so that the church [the people of God and future people of God] may be built up,” (1 Cor 14:26).

***A Prayer: Lord, thank You that someone took me to church. Put someone on my heart that I can share Your love and hope with and give me the opportunity and courage to invite them to go with me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

When I was a little girl, it was just me and my mom and we did not always have a lot of money. Sometimes friends and family shared a bag of clothes their daughter had outgrown or gave us a bag of groceries. I was super excited when they did, haha! New stuff!

Likewise, God wants Christians to take care of one another. The world will always need your love and care, but so do your brothers and sisters in Christ.

In 1 Corinthians 14:1-20, Paul wants us to focus on the upbuilding, encouraging, and comforting of the church (not the building, but the people). Change happens, hurt happens, but these are our eternal friends. How can we bless them?

***A Prayer: Lord, thank You for the family that I have in Christ. Reveal to me how I can strengthen and encourage Your people. Help me to be transparent and authentic with my spiritual family so that they can bless me too. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Break-ups and divorce tell us that human love fails, so what is God’s “Agape” love and how is it different?

In Greek, there are different words for love. When you think of romantic love, that is “eros.” When you think about loving your family and friends, that is “phile.” But the Bible tells us that “God IS love,” (1 Jn 4:8) and that word for love is “agape.” Here in 1 Corinthians 13, the very words often read during marriage ceremonies is not eros, it is Agape.

Why this matters: You may stop eros-ing (romantic loving) your spouse. You might not even phile (friend) love your spouse anymore. BUT, if you’re filled with the Spirit of God, it is possible to Agape love.

Now, this isn’t a post encouraging you to stay in your marriage or against you getting a divorce. In fact, my point is that Agape isn’t necessarily about marriage at all. You can Agape anyone: your spouse, friend, parent, child, or co-worker. I think that you can even Agape love your pet or our planet–because Agape love is about an attitude–an action–of unconditional acceptance, kindness, and grace.

Go read 1 Corinthians 13 again, and think about this as “Agape” love. What stands out to you?

***A Prayer: Lord, thank You for Agape loving me. Help me to separate the different kinds of love and teach me to Agape love others. Fill me with Your Spirit so that this is possible and show me how to act out and live in Agape love. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Christian, you have a calling from God. Go after it! …. No more talk of what you aren't and what you can't do—now is the time to Rise Up and share the Good News and the blessings of life in the Kingdom of Heaven! Go For It!

How do I know this? In today’s reading, the Apostle Paul says, “Now to EACH ONE the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the Common Good (συμφέρον),” (1 Cor 12:7).

Go read 1 Corinthians 12 and look at that big list of gifts! WOW! I want to encourage you to pray about that list and ask God to reveal what your gifts are. Then in Faith, trust that He will show you and that He will guide you to use them for His glory.

So, no more feeling like you’re “small potatoes”: not educated enough—not bold enough—not whatever-enough. Those are lies from the pit of hell.

You ARE: Chosen. Gifted. Loved. Called.

***A Prayer: Lord, thank You for the spiritual gifts that You have given me. Reveal to me what those are, and give me the courage to step out in faith to use them. Heal me from anyone who has ever spoken a negative word to me that shook my confidence. I hear YOU, Lord, and I believe that I am Chosen, Gifted, Loved, and Called. In Jesus’ name, Amen!

When was the last time that you took Communion (the “Eucharist” or the “Lord’s Supper”)? The world has been so crazy, that it’s possible that you have not been to church in some time!

What stands out to me today in 1 Corinthians 11 is Jesus speaking of Communion and saying: “Do (ποιεῖτε) this in remembrance of Me,” (vs 24).

Now people get all excited about the “remembrance” part (is this the “real” body and blood of Jesus or is it there spiritually or is it just a symbol?), BUT I think that the most important part is the word “DO.” You see in the original language this is ποιεῖτε, which is a command. So we might read it like: “DO! this in remembrance of Me.”

So no matter how you understand what is happening when you take the bread and wine/grape juice, you are commanded to actually DO it.

So go DO it! Get yourself to church this week and participate in worshiping God and taking Communion. It will be spiritually good for you.

***A Prayer: Lord, thank You for providing us a way to be part of You and the body of Christ through the Eucharist / Lord’s Supper / Communion. Please help me to get to church this week and to be able to participate in this sacrament as soon as possible. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

You are not an accident. You are not forgotten. And you are not the random byproduct of divine indifference.

Know any two-faced people? One way at church and another at home? That breaks my heart. Eating lunch, going to work, singing at church–all of these are places to live for God’s glory!

The Apostle Paul is “in a huff” (super annoyed) here in 1 Cor 10. He’s mad about people getting legalistic about food–what to eat and who to eat it with. He ends saying, “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, DO it all for the glory of God!” (1 Cor 10:31).

Do you see all-caps for “DO” and the exclamation mark I added above, after the word “God!”? I did this because in Greek, “do” is a command. In English this emphasis could be represented like: *DO IT* all for the glory of God!

Being consistent in our Christian walk isn’t really an option. It is what God has asked (commanded) of us.

Friend, when you get to Heaven, Jesus isn’t going to be impressed with all of your achievements or your stuff, He’s going to look at how you acted on your way to work, while you ate lunch, and when you sang at church. Was it all for the Glory of God (or yourself)?

[This is so convicting for me. I need to work on my attitude! How about you?]

So, to God be the glory! In our waking, playing, and working – Amen!

***A Prayer: Lord, thank You for making it clear what you expect of me. Help me to care more about what You think of me than what others think. Give me the courage to be me and to be me for Your glory. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Deep down you *knew* it was a bad idea–that relationship, that party, that lie–but there you went, fingers in your ears. “Lalala, I can’t hear you conscience, this will be fine!” said *everyone* at some point. This is what we see in 1 Cor 10:6-10, hearts set on evil and the consequences that followed. God help us!

Regret–every human has it, including me!

Here’s the Good News: Christ came so that we would not *live* in sin (bad moral choices), but be set free from sin and *live* in forgiveness. Now, that doesn't mean there won’t be consequences (commit fraud, you end up in jail), but you can be mentally, emotionally, and spiritually free.

What does freedom of the mind and spirit mean? It means repenting (stopping) and turning away from that wrong path–giving and receiving forgiveness–becoming a new you through a commitment to life in the Spirit (Galatians 5).

Friend, I believe that You are being transformed, because the Word of God is true and it says this about you: “He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus,” (Phil 1:6).

So let go of that bad stuff, it only hurts you!

***A Prayer: Lord, thank You for freedom through You. Heal me from the evil that I have hung out with, embraced, and accepted. Set me free from spiritual bo***ge and bring me the support I need. I believe your Word and I believe that there is Hope for me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
