May is Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, highlighting the contributions and heritage of Americans of Asian and Pacific Islander descent.

1 in 10 (10%) Asian Americans live below the poverty line; this number is even higher among Pacific Islanders and Native Hawaiians, where the rate is just above 1 in 6 (18%), according to the US Department of the Treasury.

The shortage of resources experienced by Pacific Islander communities is exacerbated by the high cost of living in areas like Hawaii, where (according to the US Department of Agriculture), groceries cost an average of 52% more than they do in the continental United States.

Did you know? According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), persons below the poverty line are 2.5 times as likely to have depression than those who live at or above it.

Below we have highlighted some public resources for those in the US; we encourage you to share them with your loved ones and friends. And if you are looking for support in other areas, we encourage you to stop by our website at https://www.tricap.org , and see how our team can help you build a ladder.
