We were privileged to honor a father and son duo Quilts of Valor on Thursday, April 23rd, in Wahpeton.
Warren P entered the US Army in 1951. This was during the Korean War. After passing the physical exam he got on a train heading to Fort Riley, Kansas, where his basic training was to learn how to use heavy weapons such as machine guns, bazookas, and mortars. After his training he was sent to Big Delta, Alaska where he was stationed for 2 years. At that time Alaska wasn’t a state so he was able to say he served overseas.
He became a Chaplain’s assistant with duties of driving the Chaplain and preparing the setup for church services.
He also had the privilege of escorting actress and singer Ann Blith around their camp when she came to Big Delta to entertain the troops…and he has pictures to prove it!
Warren was honorably discharged in 1953. He is a lifetime member of the International War Veteran’s Alliance, a 60-year member of the American Legion, and a 50-year member of the AmVets. He was privileged to have been on an Honor Flight to Washington DC.
Welcome home Warren, we thank you for your service and sacrifice in defending our country.
Dennis P entered the Army National Guard in 1996. He was a member of the Engineer Battalion in Wahpeton where his duty was to construct buildings.
Dennis was deployed to Kosovo in 2000 for a 9 month tour reconstructing some of the damage the area had sustained.
Dennis was honorably discharged in 2004. He is a member of the VFW. Welcome home Dennis, we thank you for your service and sacrifice in defending our country.
