Hope is growing in the fight against HIV. Scientists have developed a CRISPR‑based therapy that can remove HIV DNA from infected human cells and significantly reduce the chance of the virus returning, offering a possible path toward a long‑lasting or even functional cure. In laboratory studies, treated cells show durable suppression of HIV and no signs of viral rebound, suggesting this approach could one day help people living with HIV live without daily medication.

Unlike traditional antiretroviral therapy, which only controls the virus, this gene‑editing strategy targets the virus’s genetic blueprint inside the cell, striking at the root of the infection. While these results are still early and further clinical trials are needed to confirm safety and effectiveness in humans, the progress is a powerful reminder of what science, compassion, and community can achieve together.

At Red Cause, we stand with communities affected by HIV and celebrate every step forward that brings us closer to a healthier, more hopeful future for all.

🚨 This is life or death.

The federal government has officially shut down the dedicated LGBTQ+ youth services on the 988 Su***de & Crisis Lifeline – the option that once connected q***r and trans young people with counselors trained specifically in LGBTQ+ issues.

That lifeline may be gone, but our community is not. If you or a young person you love is in crisis, there are affirming services still here:

For LGBTQ+ youth in crisis (US)

- The Trevor Project – 24/7, free, confidential support for LGBTQ+ young people
- Call: 1‑866‑488‑7386
- Text: “START” to 678‑678
- Chat: TheTrevorProject.org/Get-Help

- Trans Lifeline – peer support run by and for trans people
- US: 877‑565‑8860
- Canada: 877‑330‑6366

- 988 Su***de & Crisis Lifeline (still operating, but without the LGBTQ+‑specific “press 3” option)
- Call or text: 988
- Chat: 988lifeline.org

Please tell every q***r and trans young person you know:
You are not alone. You deserve safety, dignity, and a future. Reaching out for help is an act of courage.

For parents, caregivers, and allies

If a young person comes to you in crisis:

- Believe them and listen without judgment.
- Remove immediate dangers (weapons, large quantities of medications, etc.).
- Stay with them or ensure they aren’t left alone while you connect to one of the hotlines above or local emergency services.
- Ask directly if they are thinking about su***de – this *does not* put the idea in their head and can open the door to safety planning.

Share these resources widely. This is how we keep each other alive when systems fail us.

Urgent: Detained Immigration Journalist

ICE recently arrested immigration journalist Estefany Maria Rodríguez Flores in Nashville; she has a valid work permit and has been covering ICE and immigration issues. Rights groups warn this mirrors past retaliation against immigration reporters under this administration.

If you want to act:

- Sign and share the petition demanding her release: https://act.link/gi-sHDnV5
- Contact your members of Congress and ask them to speak out about her case and about press freedom in immigration reporting.

Targeted attacks on LGBTQ+ youth and immigrants are connected – they are both about silencing people and making them feel disposable. Red Cause stands with q***r and trans youth, with immigrant communities, and with the journalists who tell their stories.

If you are safe enough to do so, please share this post so it reaches parents, educators, faith leaders, and young people who need to see it today.

03/08/2026

For more than three decades, the Ryan White Program has been a lifeline, making lifesaving HIV treatment possible for people who would otherwise go without care. Today that promise is under threat as drugmakers and policymakers clash in ways that could raise costs and limit access for the very communities this program was created to serve.

At Red Cause Inc., we believe no one should have to choose between their health and their financial survival. When systems shift and prices climb, it’s people living with HIV, their families, and already under-resourced communities who pay the highest price. This moment is a reminder that progress is not permanent—and that advocacy, informed voters, and united communities still matter.

Take a few minutes to read this important piece and then ask yourself: “What can I do—locally, with my voice, my vote, or my platform—to protect access to HIV care?” If you’re ready to learn, speak up, or partner with us on health equity work in our community, Red Cause is here to connect the dots and take action together.

Citing rising costs and shortfalls in federal support, about 20 states are toughening eligibility requirements for patients in drug assistance programs.
