Hey, Sioux Valley students, are you ready for an adventure? This year's fall play, Peter and the Starcatcher is a wildly imaginative, hilarious prequel that tells the story of how a nameless orphan became Peter Pan, how the lost boys found their way to Neverland, and how Captain Hook got his famous hook. With pirates, sailors, culinarily-inclined Islanders, and mermaids, there are plenty of opportunities for you to shine on stage!

Congratulations, Mr. Aasness - you deserve it!

🌟 Middle School Division Teacher of the Year: Michael Aasness 🌟

Please join us in celebrating Michael Aasness, the 2026 South Dakota Art Education Association Middle School Division Teacher of the Year!

Michael has been teaching visual arts as the 6–12 Art Instructor at Sioux Valley School District in Volga, South Dakota, since 2017. A graduate of South Dakota State University with a degree in Art Education and a Certificate in Painting, Michael continues to create and exhibit his artwork throughout the Midwest while sharing his knowledge through workshops and presentations across South Dakota.
His dedication to education and his school community has been recognized throughout his career, including being named Sioux Valley School District Teacher of the Year in 2020–2021 and being nominated for South Dakota Art Educator of the Year.

Michael shares, “My goal is to inspire others to leave a legacy and help realize their potential and that their talents are worth sharing with others.” He is grateful for the opportunity to teach, give back, and pass along the inspiration he received from his own teachers and coaches.

Congratulations, Michael! We are honored to celebrate your dedication to art education, creativity, and inspiring the next generation of artists. 🎨👏

Had a great time at Brookings Community Theatre's production of The Wizard of Oz last night. It was fantastic to watch Sioux Valley's own Jeanna Brandsrud and Angie Faye Andreasen along with several other Cossacks share their creativity, hard work, and love of theater with audiences throughout our community. (Bonus credit to Jackson Bellis for directing the pit!)
