Only Losers Litter

Six of us gave Historic Downtown Vista a quick glow-up this morning! In just 45 minutes, we picked up 27.5 pounds of trash, including lots of cigarette butts.

Let’s keep OLL growing! Join us for the next one — date TBD.

What part of town should we clean up in November?

The next OLL Cleanup is scheduled for Friday, September 18. We’ll meet at 9:00 a.m. in the parking lot for the Vista Transit Center off of Olive Avenue.

As we prepare for El Niño rains, it’s especially important to keep our community litter-free. Our storm drains lead directly to our creeks and out to the ocean, so picking up litter before the rains will help keep it out of the watershed.

Join us to help beautify our community and protect the environment. Meet new friends and have fun while making a difference!

Three of us collected approximately 30 pounds of litter in just 60 minutes!

We met at the Vista Post Office on Postal Way and headed out from there. We didn’t have to go far to fill our buckets and bags. We are grateful to Postal Centre of Vista on S. Santa Fe for letting us use their dumpster.

Where would you like to see us hold our next clean up?

We collected about 20 pounds of litter in just 60 minutes on Friday morning. We met in front of the old Vons on Civic Center Drive in Vista and fanned out from there.

The Vons building has been vacant for a long time, but that doesn’t relieve the property owners of their responsibility to maintain it. It never should have been allowed to become such an eyesore, especially on one of the main routes to City Hall—it is called Civic Center Drive, after all.

It’s actually not surprising that Vons has remained empty. Attracting a new tenant must be difficult when a building and its surroundings are neglected.

Thankfully, a thoughtful new friend helped us dispose of the litter we collected.

Happy World Environment Day! 🌍🌱

We were doing a litter pickup this morning and ran into this amazing city staffer who was out working to keep our streets clean. He collected about 500 cigarette butts along a short stretch of Olive Avenue across from the Vista Transit Center. Ugh! 😡

We did our part too by removing about 30 pounds of litter in 60 minutes. 💪🧹
