🇺🇸💜 SURVIVOR BENEFITS: KNOW WHAT SUPPORT MAY BE AVAILABLE TO YOUR FAMILY 💜🇺🇸

Supporting our military community also means making sure surviving spouses, children, and dependents know where to turn after the loss of a Veteran.

Grief can already feel overwhelming. Trying to understand benefits, paperwork, and eligibility should not make that season even harder. The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) offers survivor benefits and services that eligible family members may be able to receive.

Some benefits and services may include:
Dependency and Indemnity Compensation (DIC)
Survivors Pension
Dependents’ Educational Assistance (DEA)
Fry Scholarship
VA Home Loan benefits
CHAMPVA health care
National Cemetery interment and burial benefits
Memorial and legacy programs
Confidential counseling through Vet Centers and VA facilities
Educational and career planning assistance
Beneficiary financial counseling

📌 Before applying, gather important documents, which may include the Veteran’s DD214 or other separation documents, a copy of the death certificate, and documentation showing your relationship to the Veteran, such as a marriage or birth certificate.

Eligible survivors can apply or receive assistance through the VA, an accredited Veterans Service Organization (VSO), or a VA Regional Office. After submitting a claim, survivors can also track its status through VA.gov.

💗 OCTOBER IS BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH 💗

This month, we pause with prayerful hearts to honor the women, families, and loved ones whose lives have been touched by breast cancer.

At Hampton Roads Sapphire Veterans, Inc., we stand in faith, love, and sisterhood as we recognize the strength of every survivor, remember those we have lost, and cover every fighter still in the battle with prayer.

Some battles are fought in silence.
Some tears fall behind closed doors.
Some women carry pain, fear, and uncertainty while still showing up for everyone else.

But even in those moments, your faith is still present.
It is a healer.
It is a comforter.
It is a keeper.

And it is still giving strength for every step of your journey.

We believe that faith gives us courage when we feel weak, hope when life feels heavy, and peace when the road is uncertain. This month, we wear pink not just as a color, but as a symbol of love, remembrance, resilience, and hope.

To every woman fighting…
To every survivor still standing…
To every family praying…
To every heart grieving…

You are seen. You are loved. You are not forgotten. And you are not fighting alone.

We pray for healing.
We pray for comfort.
We pray for early detection.
We pray for restored strength.
