When cancer enters a home with six children, life becomes a relentless cycle of schedules, treatments, and survival. Moments of pure, uninterrupted connection between a husband and wife can easily get lost in the noise.

Last month, we had the privilege of stepping in to hit "pause" for a courageous mom fighting cancer for the last two years and her devoted husband.

These Gifts of Rest - a staycation, couples massage and accompanying gift cards - weren't just a change of scenery. It was a chance to exhale. It was an intentional space for them to laugh together, find quiet together, and remember the lightness of just being them again. Hearing how much they laughed and rejuvenated their spirits is exactly why we do what we do.

✨ This rest was also beautifully supported by the incredibly generous Maria Nicolette (), who helped us wrap this family in community and care when they needed it most. Thank you, Maria!

Today marks 8 years since sweet Leo passed from this earth.

In the shadow of that loss, Kimberly Hope walked through cancer with a quiet strength that still speaks, and today we share her words with you, along with a note from our co-founder, Cristina Pocta:

“This image of them smiling reminds me… love doesn’t end here. They are whole, they are together, and I believe they are still cheering us on.

Kim was my first friend in Virginia Beach. We shared a sacred space in grief - different journeys, but a deeply connected understanding.

Her life, her faith, and her resilience helped shape the heart of SEEN. And through her husband Matt, her legacy continues to live and breathe.

The story of Kimberly Hope and Leo James will never be forgotten.

Every single person in our community has something unique to offer and every contribution, no matter the size or form, enables us to support families through their most difficult moments involving disability or cancer. Here are some of the many ways you can be part of this mission:

Gift-in-Kind Services: Do you offer a service that could be a Gift of Rest? Massage therapy, meal delivery, cleaning, contracting, and more. Reach out at youareseen.org/local-business.

Corporate Sponsorships: Businesses can align their brand with SEEN's mission through sponsorship packages that support programs and events. Learn more at youareseen.org/corporate-sponsors.

Grants: SEEN actively pursues grant funding to expand our reach. If your organization administers grants or knows of opportunities, we'd love to connect.
