Last week, we had the opportunity to share about our mission at Grace Bible Church ⛪️ It was a joy to connect with so many people eager to support children, young adults, and foster families in our community!

This is what Wild Oak Haven is all about! Everyone has a role to play in supporting the foster community, and we love partnering with churches like Grace Bible that have a heart to be the hands and feet of Jesus and a desire to care for vulnerable children and families in tangible ways.

What a beautiful way to close out National Foster Care Month and continue building a community where no individual or family walks this journey alone. 🧡

As our Village continues to grow, so does our childcare room!

We’re thrilled to welcome Michelle as our new Family Care Program Lead! Her heart for children and families makes her a wonderful addition to the team.

Join us in giving Michelle a warm welcome and learn more about her ⬇

"My name is Michelle and I'm 25 years old. My husband is Nathan, we have one daughter and I am pregnant with another girl. We have two dogs, Bella, a black lab, and Scrappy, a brown mini dachshund. I’m originally from Ceres, California and moved to Virginia in 2019 when I signed a contract with the Navy. I’m no longer active duty, as I now stay at home and work part-time at Kidtique. I also help with childcare at Grace Bible church, where I have been a member since 2021 and now at Wild Oak, where I have been helping out with The Village since 2025!

I’ve always found myself drawn to helping with kids ministry. God has always set that passion in me. I was told this phrase one time and it comes to mind every so often - 'The easiest way to get adults to come to Christ is through the lives of their children.'

Wild Oak Haven focuses on the families and brings Jesus into the conversation. They focus on spreading God’s word outside of Sunday church and I’m excited to be part of that change.

I’m looking forward to bringing young adults to Jesus. I want to let them know that God loves them for who they are and that Jesus died for us. I also want to grow in my own faith. Just because we are Christian already doesn’t mean God has stopped using us for change in the world and in our own lives.

Two of my favorite quotes I’ve heard within the last year from two different sermons: 1) Salvation is free, growth in Christ is a choice 2) Just because we are Christian doesn’t make us sinless. But because we are Christian we should sin less."

One of the most unique things about the Don’t Go Alone program is the kind of commitment we ask our mentors to make — not just for a season, but for life. There’s something powerful about stepping into a relationship rooted in consistency. Knowing someone will be there through both the celebrations and the hard moments.

And in between those moments? There are pickup basketball games, conversations on the sidelines, trust being built, lessons being learned, and memories made one ordinary day at a time. 🧡🏀

This season has brought so much growth and so many milestones worth celebrating. Several of our mentees are graduating — a huge accomplishment! And just last week, SIX young adults signed up for the program in a single day.

Praise God for creating spaces where His love can be seen, felt, and shared so clearly.

We're so excited to officially welcome Dan into his new role as Relationship Manager for the Don’t Go Alone program!

Dan has been such an important part of WOH through outreach and training, but his heart for people and incredible gifting made this new role a natural fit.

If you’ve ever met Dan, you already know why we’re so grateful to have him on our team. And if you haven’t yet, take a moment to read through his bio — you’ll quickly understand why we think Dan is so amazing!

"My name is Dan Everett. I was born and raised in West Philadelphia, which is exactly why I can’t stand that song everyone is thinking of. I haven’t lived there in a long time, though. My time in the Army had me moving all over, both in the U.S. and overseas. My lovely princess, angel, saint, genius, beauty of a wife and I have seven children, and we live in the Western Branch area of Chesapeake, Virginia. Professionally, I’ve served in a variety of roles in the Army and later worked as a Human Resources Business Partner in Employee Relations for the City of Virginia Beach. I’m currently studying at Regent University to become a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with plans on pursuing a master’s in divinity upon completion (and no, I don’t like school). I also serve as an Elder at my church, where I occasionally preach.

I’ve always had a heart for young people who are transitioning into adulthood. Even under the best circumstances, that stage of life requires guidance. Over time, I came to see that not just as something I care about, but as something I’m responsible for. During my military career, the most meaningful part wasn’t just what I accomplished, it was what was learned alongside and passed on to younger Soldiers. In many ways, this path has been developing my entire adult life.

What drew me to this team really comes down to relationship. Since moving to Virginia, I’ve encountered people who genuinely live in a way that reflects their faith, people who are trying to be obedient to God in how they live and love others. That’s what I see in this team. Being part of something like that matters to me.

I’m especially looking forward to building relationships and helping create environments where people can support one another and grow together. There’s something powerful about shifting the focus off ourselves and onto others, and I believe that kind of posture creates real, lasting joy. It’s not just the young adults who benefit from that, families and the broader community experience it too.

Outside of work, I enjoy fishing and watching football, strictly watching at this point. Every now and then I’ll pick up a video game as well. I’d like to get into hunting at some point, but that’s still on hold for now.

A guiding principle for me comes from Proverbs 4:7: “Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.” I try to live that out by seeking to understand rather than just trying to be right. It’s the difference between checking a box and actually growing. More than anything, I want to understand the heart of God and live from that place, rather than performing for Him or anyone else."

To all our mentees and future mentees 🧡

You are being prayed for.

By your mentors, your Relationship Manager, the Don’t Go Alone team, and the Wild Oak Haven prayer team.

We’re praying for you in the hard moments, the victories, and all the in-between days. Because prayer opens the door to the peace, strength, and belonging only God can provide.

Don’t Go Alone is a mentorship program for young adults who have aged out of foster care or are navigating life with little to no support. We walk alongside you with encouragement, guidance, and practical life skills as you step into adulthood.

If you’re looking for a mentor, we have incredible people ready to walk with you, support you, and pray for you.

Remember, you don’t need to do this on your own.

Training complete ✅ 🎉

Celebrating our newest mentors in the Don’t Go Alone program! What a gift it is to watch God work through each of you. Time and time again, we’ve seen how He is already at work behind the scenes, thoughtfully pairing mentors and mentees so they can walk alongside each other into the next season of life.

Interested in mentoring at-risk and “aged-out” young adults? We’d love to connect: [email protected]

Because healing doesn’t happen in isolation—it happens when someone stays.

Through mentorship, we’re creating spaces where trust can be rebuilt, encouragement is steady, and love shows up again and again.

No young person should have to navigate life alone.

If you’ve ever wondered how you can make a difference, this is it. Show up. Walk alongside. Be part of a story of restoration.
