If you or someone you know needs to travel off-Island for a medical appointment, the Steamship Authority can help.

Assistance is available for booking reservations when ferries are sold out, as well as discounted fares for Islanders with disabilities or ongoing medical treatments.

The contact person for anyone needing help with medical travel reservations or discounts is:
Angela Campbell
Manager of Reservations & Community Relations
508-548-5011 ext. 204

We’ve included information from the Steamship website outlining what patients and their families need to know — including how to request assistance, what documentation is required, and how to submit proof of medical appointments.

There's a version of the Island that feels serene, steady, and close to home. For many, that's what support looks like too.

The Martha’s Vineyard Cancer Support Group exists to make sure no one here has to navigate cancer on their own. Whether that means financial help, a weekly conversation, or simply knowing where to turn.

Support is here, in ways both practical and personal.

Life after cancer treatment comes with its own challenges, and no one has to navigate them alone.

Martha's Vineyard Hospital offers "Living Beyond Cancer," a survivorship support group designed for individuals adjusting to life after treatment. The group meets on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month and provides a space for survivors to connect, share experiences, and find support.

Pre-registration is required. To learn more or sign up, contact Leslie Beliveau, LCSW, at [email protected] or call 508-862-2928.

The MV Cancer Support Group also hosts a weekly Zoom support group open to patients, caregivers, family members, and friends at any stage of the cancer journey.

If you or someone you care about could benefit from support, resources are available right here on the Island.

The sunflower has long been a sign of optimism, its face turning toward the light even on cloudy days. In many cultures, it’s seen as a symbol of resilience and faith, reminders that relief grows stronger in community and care.

The MV Cancer Support Group banner made its first appearance at one of our early outdoor fundraisers in the 1990s. The design was created by Island artist Dan Waters, who drew the original logo and carved it as a woodcut. While the logo has been refreshed in recent years, the mission remains the same.

MV Cancer Support Group exists to support members of the Island community through the challenges of cancer. In a place where neighbors look out for one another, we are committed to providing connection, resources, and support so that no one has to navigate a diagnosis, treatment, or survivorship alone.

Support can take many forms, and no one should have to navigate cancer alone.

There's something special about the way Martha’s Vineyard shows up for its people.

A meal dropped off, a ride to an appointment, a familiar face checking in at the grocery store, or even a conversation that reminds someone they are not carrying everything alone.

That spirit of community is at the heart of the Martha’s Vineyard Cancer Support Group. For 40 years, neighbors have helped neighbors through some of life’s most difficult moments with compassion, practical support, and genuine care.
