Don't be a WISHcycler! 👎

Because they are not accepted in our curbside program, hangers are considered a contaminant and should either be donated for reuse or go into your garbage cart.

Wishcycling merely results in contamination and could cause the entire truckload of recycling to be taken to the landfill.

While plastic milk jugs can be recycled, milk cartons must go into your garbage cart!

Do you have a lot of recyclables around the house? Mark your calendar, the recycling drop off center will be open this weekend!

The center is located at Waste Management, 10205 US Hwy 59N and will be open from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm on the first Saturday of every month.

Have you ever put something into your ♻ recycling cart without really knowing whether it can be recycled? Maybe your old Christmas lights? 🎄 Plastic hoses or hangers or utensils? 🍴 (Hey, they're plastic, right?)

That's called WISHCYCLING, and though well-intentioned, is unfortunately not a good thing.

Pictured here are commonly "wishcycled" items that contaminate loads in the City's recycling trucks and can cause them to go to the landfill. Remember to ONLY put the following recyclables into your cart:

♻ plastic bottles and jugs (NO bags!)
♻ paper, cardboard, and paperboard
♻ metal cans including aerosol cans
