Have you ever put something into your โ™ป recycling cart without really knowing whether it can be recycled? Maybe your old Christmas lights? ๐ŸŽ„ Plastic hoses or hangers or utensils? ๐Ÿด (Hey, they're plastic, right?)

That's called WISHCYCLING, and though well-intentioned, is unfortunately not a good thing.

Pictured here are commonly "wishcycled" items that contaminate loads in the City's recycling trucks and can cause them to go to the landfill. Remember to ONLY put the following recyclables into your cart:

โ™ป plastic bottles and jugs (NO bags!)
โ™ป paper, cardboard, and paperboard
โ™ป metal cans including aerosol cans

A big THANK YOU to John Fossati and Four Seasons Garden Center for always providing the Environmental Services Community Appearance Team with gorgeous, eye-catching bedding plants. ๐Ÿชป ๐ŸŒบ

Community Appearance is responsible for maintaining most of the flowerbeds around town, and you can see the results of this blooming partnership at the Street of Ten Friends, Hiller House, the Moody Street welcome sign, and along Zac Lentz Parkway.

Help us reduce the mosquito population by emptying out any standing water around your home and yard where mosquitoes lay their eggs. Stop by the Parks and Rec office in Riverside Park and grab your FREE mosquito dunk, limit one per household.

Flowerbed Friends: Cross Your Fingers edition! ๐ŸŒผ๐ŸŒธ

We rolled the dice and decided we'd try to outwit the rain ๐ŸŒง on Saturday morning and our bet paid off! ๐ŸŽฒ

In just under 1 hour, KVB volunteers refreshed the bed at the Moody Street welcome sign - removing old plants, weeding, and replanting under the direction of Wendy and Joe of the City's Community Appearance Team.

This project would have taken Wendy and Joe 2-3 hours to complete, and we were happy to lighten their load!

The Colony Creek Ladies Golf Association wasn't able to participate in our Spring Trash Off, so they asked to do their own cleanup of the stretch of Zac Lentz Parkway from Airline to Business 59!

13 volunteers collected 9 bags of trash on Tuesday evening and we couldn't be more grateful for their efforts!
