📚 It’s Education Day for Vernon Leadership!

📚 Vernon Leadership | Education Day

It’s Education Day for the Vernon Leadership Class!

This morning, class members spent time with Vernon ISD, learning more about the many Career and Technical Education (CTE) opportunities available to students and how these programs are preparing them for college, careers, and life after high school. 🎓🛠️

And you can’t have Education Day without a little hands-on learning… especially when it tastes this good! 😋 Lunch today was prepared and provided by the talented VHS Culinary students. A big thank you to these students and their instructors for taking care of our class!

This afternoon, Vernon Leadership will continue Education Day at Vernon College, learning more about the college, its programs, history, and role in our community.

A full day of seeing how education is helping shape the future of Vernon! ❤️

🏛️🚒🚓 Vernon Leadership | Government Day

Back on August 12, the Vernon Leadership Class spent the day getting a firsthand look at the people, departments, and services that keep Vernon and Wilbarger County moving every day.

The class toured the City of Vernon Wastewater Treatment Plant, Public Works facilities, Wilbarger County Courthouse, Vernon City Hall, Wilbarger County Jail, Vernon Police Department, and Vernon Fire Department.

Along the way, class members had the opportunity to visit with city and county leaders, ask questions, and learn more about everything from public safety and infrastructure to local government and community development.

The group also enjoyed lunch at Syntrio, who graciously hosted the class during their visit.

Government Day was a great reminder that so much of what makes a community work happens behind the scenes, thanks to dedicated people serving our citizens every single day.

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who welcomed Vernon Leadership, shared their knowledge, and gave the class a closer look at how our city and county serve the community! ❤️

Learn. Connect. Lead.

Today was Non-Profit Day for Vernon Leadership.

The group met with several impactful organizations, including the Texhoma Alliance to Stop Abuse, the Ministerial Alliance, Humane Society, USSV, Boys and Girls Club of Vernon, Hidden Treasures, and Congregate Meals. Lunch was generously sponsored by the Vernon Lions Club at the Chaparral Senior Center, where members also shared more about the work they do in our community.

A highlight of the day was a leadership lecture from Dr. Johnson, along with time at Vernon College—where the group gathered in front of the iconic “Tower of Knowledge.”

Thank you to everyone who helped make today a great example of collaboration and community support!

Leadership

This week, the Vernon Leadership class gathered at VSC For VSH for a unique and meaningful session with Marie Alaniz, where participants used art as a way to reflect on themselves—exploring personal growth, perspective, and self-awareness in a creative setting.

Superintendent Ragland and Assistant Superintendent Scarbro followed with valuable leadership insights, sharing practical pointers drawn from their experience.

The day wrapped up with an educational campus tour led by Keli Boyd and Charlsie Brown, giving participants a deeper understanding of the work being done at VSH and the people who make it happen.

First day is in the books!

Today we wrapped up our first Vernon Leadership day out at 3 Rivers Ranch, hosted by the TTU Observatory. What a setting to kick things off.

Spending the day learning, connecting, and stepping outside the normal routine made for a strong start to this year’s class. Big thanks to our hosts for opening the doors and helping set the tone for the months ahead.

One session down… a lot more growth to come.

Vernon Leadership kicked off this morning, and we’re excited to welcome 14 candidates into this year’s program.

Over the coming months, they’ll connect with stakeholders from across Vernon, gaining firsthand insight into the people, organizations, and systems that help keep our community moving forward. From public service to local business, education to healthcare, they’ll see what leadership looks like in action.

It’s always encouraging to watch a new group step up, lean in, and invest in the future of Vernon. Looking forward to seeing how this class grows together.
