🦠PARVO🦠- Let’s talk about it.

Canine parvovirus is one of the most serious virus puppies and dogs can get. It attacks the white blood cells and gastrointestinal tract and without aggressive veterinary intervention can be up to 90% fatal.

But guess what… 🎉 Parvo is completely preventable if given proper vaccines and properly timed vaccine boosters. As well as keeping your puppy away from other dogs or public areas until they are given all of their boosters.

Signs of Parvo:

🦠 Diarrhea
🦠Lethargy
🦠Vomiting
🦠No appetite

❌ If you suspect your puppy to have parvo CALL YOUR VET CLINIC BEFORE BRINGING IT IN, they will be happy to do a parvo test from the comfort of your car!

🦠Parvo is extremely contagious and spreads from the f***s or vomit of sick animals. It can also live in the soil for up to 7 years.

The best and cheapest way of keeping your new puppy or dog from getting this fatal virus is prevention A.K.A. vaccinations 💉

We are looking for a foster home for these two pups! They are 2 year old Pekingese siblings, spayed and neutered and looking for a place to crash!

They will be up for adoption shortly after arriving, but we cannot take them in without a foster home lined up! All supplies included!

*PARVO PSA*
We try to keep our posts positive, but that’s just not the reality of rescue majority of the time.

Parvovirus is completely PREVENTABLE, which is why this virus is particularly frustrating to deal with.

We have now taken in two puppies from separate situations over the last three weeks and despite our best efforts (and $500+ per puppy within 24 hours of diagnosis & the new monoclonal antibody injection), both did not make it. Again, this is PREVENTABLE, these puppies died because HUMANS failed them.

We received the first puppy from someone who bought it out of the back of someone’s car in a parking lot because they wanted to help it. Well the reality is it was likely a backyard breeder who knew the pups were sick and wanted to sell it asap - within 48 hrs he was on deaths door.

The second puppy was part of a litter that was dumped on Friday (caught on camera) and passed away this morning despite treatment. The rest of the litter is doing well… for now.

Vaccinate your puppies. Do not let them on public land or socialize with dogs you do not know until fully vaccinated. Do your research on breeders - no responsible breeder will be selling out of a car or sell sick puppies.

Not only is treatment of these puppies a large expense for a small nonprofit, but it also takes an emotional toll on everyone involved.
