👕 New clothes can do more than brighten a wardrobe for a child. It can also boost confidence and self-esteem, encourage stronger school attendance, and help create a more positive learning environment. Small but meaningful changes that can help set children on a path toward greater success in school and in life.

Assistance League of Southwest Washington was happy to host its 13th Annual Back-to-School Shopping Event this month at the Grand Central Fred Meyer, providing 100 youth in out-of-home care with $175 each to choose clothing and shoes they could take home in colorful, hand-crafted cloth shopping bags sewn by our volunteers.

❤ A heartfelt thank you to Fred Meyer for its generous 10% discount and to McDonald’s of Clark County for its wonderful donation to our JUST because... program that organizes this event and for the free ice cream coupons for every shopper. ❤

And, of course, thank you to our amazing community for making this event possible!

From clothing and school supplies to mentorship and funding pediatric therapy, we provide the essentials, opportunities, and encouragement they need to thrive, and reminding them that their community believes in them.

On July 24, our volunteers had a wonderful time hosting the Kids Parade during the City of Camas' annual Camas Days celebration! This year's theme was "Celebrating 50 Years of Camas Days and 250 Years of America," and the turnout and costumes did not disappoint.

From fire trucks, stilt walkers and llamas to patriotic costumes, hippies with their VW van, and even George Washington crossing the Delaware, the creativity was amazing. Costume winners dressed as a classic ice cream truck, soda jerks, and even a baby ice cream cone served as the Grand Marshals.

A special thank you to Boy Scout Troop 562 for carrying the parade banners, Camas City Council Member Marilyn Boerke for assisting with costume judging, and to our VP of Resource Development, Pam Tetz, for working tirelessly with the Camas-Washougal Chamber of Commerce to make this wonderful community tradition possible.

Congratulations to all of the costume winners, and thank you to everyone who participated. We can't wait to see you next year!

We love partnering with Vancouver Public Schools through our Operation School Bell program and wanted to share a wonderful opportunity to support local elementary students.

Their Lunch Buddies program matches students with caring adult mentors who help build confidence, connection, and encouragement, one lunch at a time. It's a simple way to make a lasting impact and a great example of the power of community.

Just a friendly reminder that the Camas Days Kids Parade is this Friday, July 24 at 11:30 am.

We are looking forward to working with the Camas-Washougal Chamber of Commerce for the Kids Parade on Friday, July 24, as part of the 50th Annual Camas Days Hometown Festival celebration.

Kids Parade lineup and costume judging begin at 11:30 a.m. in front of City Hall at 4th & Franklin, with the parade stepping off at 12:15 p.m. This year’s Camas Days theme is “Celebrating 50 Years of Camas Days and 250 Years of America.”
