FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
National Women's Coalition Against Violence & Exploitation (NWCAVE) Announces Sheryl "Mac" McCollum as Recipient of the 2027 National Journalism Impact Award

VANCOUVER, Wash. — The National Women's Coalition Against Violence & Exploitation (NWCAVE) is proud to announce that renowned crime journalist, forensic expert, and victim advocate Sheryl "Mac" McCollum has been selected as the recipient of the 2027 National Journalism Impact Award.

McCollum will be honored during Java for Justice - Gala 2027 on Saturday, March 6, 2027, in Vancouver, Washington, as part of NWCAVE's True Crime Weekend.

The National Journalism Impact Award recognizes a journalist whose work demonstrates excellence in reporting on violence, victimization, public safety, and justice while maintaining the highest standards of ethical, victim-centered journalism.

For more than four decades, McCollum has dedicated her career to informing the public through factual, compassionate, and evidence-based reporting. As the founder and director of the Cold Case Investigative Research Institute, an Emmy Award-winning member of the CSI Atlanta team, host of Zone 7 with Sheryl McCollum, author, and writer for CrimeOnline, she has become one of the nation's most respected voices in true crime and forensic investigation. Her work consistently elevates the voices of victims, survivors, and families while educating the public about criminal investigations and the pursuit of justice.

"Sheryl 'Mac' McCollum represents everything this award was created to honor," said Michelle Bart, Founder and President of NWCAVE. "She understands that behind every case is a human life. Her reporting is thoughtful, compassionate, and deeply committed to truth, accountability, and justice. She has set the standard for responsible crime journalism, and we are honored to recognize her extraordinary contributions."

McCollum was nominated by Dr. Terri Armenta, Founder of Forensic Training Unlimited and Director of The Forensic Science Academy, who praised McCollum's unwavering commitment to victim-centered reporting, public education, and collaboration between journalists, investigators, forensic professionals, and victim advocates. The nomination highlights her ability to bring dignity to victims' stories while helping audiences better understand crime, evidence, and the criminal justice system.

The award will be presented during NWCAVE's annual gala, which celebrates individuals whose work has made a lasting impact on victims, survivors, and communities through media, advocacy, and justice.

NWCAVE congratulates Sheryl "Mac" McCollum on this well-deserved recognition and looks forward to celebrating her remarkable career on March 6, 2027.
