Every other year, The Director of the Washington State Department of Agriculture and Fair Commissions sends a fair commissioner to area fairs to conduct an on-site evaluation.
This year, Fair Commission Paul Kuber was assigned to the Valley Community Fair. After he completed his visit, he then met with fair officers; Theresa Carr, President, Jesse Klemish, Vice-President, Carla Scott, Secretary and Alexis Reber, Treasurer to go over what he thought worked well for the 2025 Valley Community Fair and what could maybe be improved.
Each Commissioner also chooses a department of the fair that they thought really stood out. This year's Baking Department, managed by Barbara Murray and Eleisha Martin was awarded the Black and White Fair Commissioners Award for their outstanding educational display and arrangement of their department. Congratulations ladies.
He also felt he had to make a mention and also awarded the Black and White Fair Commissioners Ribbon for the Tribute to our past fair president of 40 years Jackie Franks. The fair had a display at the exhibit hall door with pictures, notes and flower seeds to plant in her memory. The Valley Historical Society created a space in the Little White School House in her honor. See statement below from Phyllis D. Slayton a historical society member.
"For this year’s Valley Community Fair, the Valley Historical Society paid tribute to its Founder, Jacqueline Mae Franks. A room in the historic Valley Little White Schoolhouse was dedicated to a ‘Walk Down Memory Lane with Jackie Stroyan Franks’. Lovingly designed with many photos, personal effects, favorite things, stories, art, and memorabilia, including a 17-minute video of lifetime scenes playing in the background, from her 93-year life, family and career. A delicate Christmas display from her personal collection and even her nurses bag, complete with name-tag were on display. Jackie’s long life and legacy was beyond impressive. From mother, grandmother, great-grandmother to strong county and community advocate for health, she was instrumental in starting health programs, the Valley Grange, Fair, and Historical Society among others. She is beloved for her gift of endless caring and intense desire to do good things for her community. Her passing in January was deeply felt by all".
