Sixty-six years ago today, Jibreel Khazan (formerly Ezell Blair Jr.) and the late Maj. Gen. Joseph McNeil, the late Franklin McCain Sr. and the late David Richmond Jr. sparked the sit-in movement by requesting to be served at downtown Greensboro Woolworth’s whites-only lunch counter. The A&T Four! But it wasn’t just “a day.” They joined forces with others and pushed the movement forward, showing up daily. It spread across the country. Today, we benefit from their resistance.
