This is Midnight. I caught him last week and let him go because he hadn't been around before, but he kept coming back, and I noticed something off. Once I got my hands on him, I knew he was in need of help. He's basically blind in his right eye from a cornea scar, he's missing all of his teeth on the right side of his mouth, but the other side is fine. Maybe a trauma to the head. He is approximately 10 years old, should be 12-14 pounds; he's 7, skin and bones. His long hair hid his poor physical condition. He was severely matted. Bloodwork shows kidney disease, anemia, and dehydration. U/A shows protein in his urine, so that's out at the lab for more analysis. $1000+ in, this will be a long, slow road to recovery. Oh, and the kicker, he is declawed, and someone threw him out, unable to defend himself, in such a weak condition that he couldn't have run.
As many of you know, we did close the rescue in 2017, and I moved back to WV. You might not know, I also got divorced, and I've been on disability since 2008. Even though I no longer do dog rescue, I have taken in, vetted, and adopted out a few strays that were coming to my house because, once a rescuer, always a rescuer. I can't leave animals to fend for themselves out where there are coyotes and mean humans. One of the other cats I rescued had been shot with a sh***un and had many bbs from buckshot in her.
Anyway, this has been very financially tough as disability isn't much, and I have maxed my CareCredit with vet bills.
If anyone could donate, that would be fantastic. Midnight has a long recovery, and I'm still paying on the last couple that I rescued.
