After years of planning, partnership, and community engagement, the THRIVE Cornhill Project officially broke ground on July 23, 2026 🎉 This milestone marks a major step toward transforming sites on West and James streets into vibrant Impact Centers that will expand access to affordable housing, community services, business opportunities, and neighborhood gathering spaces.
This project would not be possible without the many state, federal, and local partners who helped bring this shared vision to life, and, of course, the residents of Cornhill whose voices have guided the work from the beginning. With People First, the Community Foundation of Herkimer and Oneida Counties, Mid-Utica Neighborhood Preservation Corporation (MUNPC), Collective Impact Network, and the City of Utica setting out to develop the THRIVE concept, many project partners have made this historic groundbreaking possible. Project partners include NYS Homes and Community Renewal (HCR), NYS Housing Finance Agency, NYS Housing Trust Fund, NYS Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance (OTDA), NYS Department of Housing and Urban Development, Homeless Housing Assistance Corporation (HHAC), Mohawk Valley Regional Economic Development Council and Empire State Development (ESD), Oneida County Government, Federal Home Loan Bank of New York, CREA, LLC, MetLife, CitiBank, Integrated Community Alternatives Network (ICAN), Empire State Supportive Housing Initiative (ESSHI), NYSERDA, Edgemere Development, Pike Construction, and Carmina Wood Design.
