Building Bridges, One Conversation at a Time 🫶🏽

We’re so proud of the ongoing efforts to strengthen trust between our community and law enforcement. Here’s a snapshot from our latest monthly trust-building meeting at the Patrick L. Johnson Community Youth Center. Police Lt. Starr joined our youth group for an open and honest discussion about working together for a safer, more united Utica. These moments are crucial in creating mutual understanding and respect. Together, we’re making a difference!

The Ready, Set, Work!
program in Cornhill helps young people in the community develop the skills they need to find and keep good jobs. It covers everything from job applications and interview practice to finding the right job opportunities. This program is a great way for our youth to gain confidence and set themselves up for success in the workforce.

Our evening to see “ To Kill a Mockingbird “

Bringing out from the Patrick Johnson Community Youth Center to see this play offers exposure to live theater, deepens understanding of social justice themes, encourages empathy, and inspires critical thinking about history and current issues.

HEAP, or the Home Energy Assistance Program, is a federally funded program that helps low-income households in Oneida County and other areas in New York State with their home heating costs. HEAP provides various types of assistance to ensure that residents can keep their homes warm during the winter months. Here are the main components of the HEAP program:
Types of HEAP Assistance
Regular HEAP Benefit:
Helps eligible households with the cost of heating their homes.
The benefit amount depends on the household's income, household size, the primary heating source, and the presence of a vulnerable household member (someone who is under age 6, age 60 or older, or permanently disabled).
Emergency HEAP Benefit:

Provides assistance to households in a heating or heat-related emergency, such as having less than a quarter tank of heating fuel or facing a utility shut-off notice.
Available if the household has already received a regular HEAP benefit and is experiencing a crisis.
Heating Equipment Repair or Replacement:

Assists with repairing or replacing a furnace, boiler, or other direct heating equipment necessary to keep the home's primary heating source working.
This benefit is available to homeowners with heating equipment that is inoperable or unsafe.
Clean and Tune Benefit:

Provides for the cleaning and inspection of primary heating equipment, such as furnaces, boilers, and other direct heating equipment, to ensure efficient operation.
Eligibility Requirements
Income: Household income must fall within certain guidelines, which are updated annually. The exact income limits depend on household size.
Residency: Applicants must be residents of New York State.
Responsibility for Heating Costs: Applicants must be responsible for paying heating costs, either directly to a fuel/utility company or indirectly through rent.
