We are proud to say we were part of the plan from 2017 to bring this competition about! Spread the word for next year! Kalispel FRTEP

Today we’re celebrating National Cupcake Day by looking back on one of our favorite moments from 2025 — the Pend Oreille Forestry Competition!

A huge thank you to Newport Safeway for generously donating a cake (close enough 😆) to help us mark the occasion and recognize the students’ achievements. Sweet treats and strong community partnerships make days like this even more memorable.

Subject: Important Information on Avian Influenza (Bird Flu)

Dear 4-H Poultry Volunteers,

The 4-H Small Animal Committee would like to share some important information with you about HPA1, commonly known as Avian Influenza or Bird Flu. There have been confirmed cases of Avian Influenza in Washington State, and we encourage you to take a moment to learn more about the disease.

Because Avian Influenza can spread from birds to humans, it’s important to be aware of both animal biosecurity practices and human safety measures. The Washington State Department of Agriculture (WSDA) provides excellent resources to help us stay informed and prepared.

Please take a few minutes to review WSDA’s media release here:
WSDA News Release on Avian Influenza, including educational resources (https://agr.wa.gov/about-wsda/news-and-media-relations/news-releases?article=45183)
For ongoing updates and detailed guidance, visit the WSDA Avian Influenza website:
WSDA Avian Influenza Information (https://agr.wa.gov/departments/animals-livestock-and-pets/avian-health/avian-influenza/bird-flu)

We encourage you to share resources from the above websites with your 4-H youth, families, and fellow volunteers so that everyone can stay safe and informed.

Thank you for your continued dedication to 4-H and for helping us protect both our communities and our animals. Please reach out to your local 4-H Coordinator if you have any questions.
