Cheryl, Jill, and Connie represented Cedar Bog at tonight’s city council meeting. Cheryl gave a copy of a letter sent to Senator Manchester and Representative Barhorst, written by Megan Wood, Executive Director and CEO of Ohio History Connection explaining the need to “prioritize the long-term protection of Cedar Bog Nature Preserve.”, to City Council members and the Mayor.
Cheryl also invited them to attend our dedication into the Old Growth Forest Network and our Earth Day Walk.
Data Center Developers have a website, Urbanaohiodatacenter.com, where they published “Facts” and “Myths.” We will be responding to this in the near future, as we take issue with some of these “facts” and “myths!”

🎂 Happy 50th Birthday, Ohio Division of Natural Areas and Preserves! 🎉
📸 This photo, taken in April 1952, shows Elizabeth Argast during a walk in Cedar Bog north of Woodburn Road. The property was purchased by the state in 1942—seven years before Ohio Department of Natural Resources was formed and more than three decades before the Division of Natural Areas and Preserves came into existence.

🤩 Cedar Bog was officially dedicated as a state nature preserve in 1979. Today, it remains the largest and finest calcareous bog or fen in Ohio.

The Moratorium Committee met this evening. We have two people on the committee who will be sharing research related to Cedar Bog and the implications of having a data center a few miles from us. It was an organizational meeting and a few citizens had questions and comments. The work has begun! According to the moratorium, the committee will research impacts and make a recommendation to the city based on our findings.

News from tonight’s zoning appeal meeting: Thor developers asked for a continuance until May for their appeal. Zoning board denied request.
Thor, etc. appealed the findings of the last zoning board meeting and the appeal was denied. They will now take the case to court.
Cheers to the Zoning Board of Appeals for standing tall!
