WOW! Public comments were powerful at tonight’s meeting! A particular shout out to senior citizens who spoke tonight! Really, really powerful. Thank you all for attending and possibly standing up since there weren’t enough chairs, or straining to hear over fire engines! Your presence did make a difference. People invested in their community and standing up to protect it is an awesome thing to witness.
Thanks to City Council members who were present who voted unanimously to take the zoning back to its original form before data center language was added. Our goal is to AT LEAST move it in conditional use which would give the city the authority to set parameters for a business wanting to come in. Of course, many would like to ban data centers in Champaign County all together! The moratorium sub-commitee will continue to meet and research the impact of data centers and will present that to City Council with their findings.
Again, THANK YOU for your support! Will keep you informed as things move along!

Big meeting tonight at city council with final reading of zoning to bring back original M-1. It’s important that we are all there reminding powers that be, that citizens don’t want data center. 6 pm,
Fire station.

Hey alI, I know we are scared and angry but careful who you point fingers at. We don’t know the full story and can’t always answer questions. We don’t want this CBA page to be a place to hurl insults and accusations. GO TO MEETINGS and educate yourself on facts as we learn them. Then we can fight this together.

Folks, this is urgent! Data center developers have just purchased more land at proposed site and is trying to fight the moratorium. Respectfully ask city council members to vote for zoning change to M-1. It’s our best hope in stopping data center!

UPDATE! HB646 was sent back to committee! Thanks to all who called their representatives! It helped! It probably won’t come back before senate until fall session but keep on the look out and keep calling your representatives!

URGENT! HB646 was supposed to protect the citizens from data centers unchecked growth but has been manipulated and quickly passed by Chavez committee and headed for senate vote today! This IS NOT the bill we need! Call Sen. Manchester to vote NO on HB646! NOW! It’s more smoke and mirrors!! Her number is 614-466-7584

Tonight was the 2nd reading of the zoning changes proposal to return to original M-1. The Bog had 6 powerful speakers, M, Maddie, Judy, Kathy, Allison, and Connie hitting home the point that this is not an appropriate site for a data center. So, 6/16/26 is 3rd and last reading before city council votes! Show up to say”we’re still here, and we don’t want a data center!” Thanks to James, Erin, and Brad who gave strong testimony as well!

Tonight was the first reading of the proposal to return to the original zoning before it was somehow changed to include data centers as a possible use. There were no questions or discussion from city council. There will be a special meeting next Tuesday, 6/9/26, 6 pm solely for the second reading, with a public hearing after where the public can comment. If you wish to speak remember to sign up before the meeting begins! The final reading will be the following Tuesday, 6/16 at 6 pm. All meetings will continue to be at the fire station for the foreseeable future.
Remember, Orchid walk this Sunday, 12-2:00! They are gorgeous!
