After our first week, one thing became clear: we need more space!

Beginning Friday, June 12, Sprouts & Spatulas will be held at the Urbana Community Center so everyone has plenty of room to cook, learn, and have fun.
๐Ÿ“ 102 Capitol Ave, Urbana
๐Ÿ•™ Fridays at 10:00 AM
โฐ Programs will last one hour or less
๐Ÿšธ Crossing guards will be available on Sunset for participants walking to program.
๐Ÿฅ„ We're also asking families to complete the Google Form linked below. This is not a registration or commitmentโ€”it simply helps us estimate attendance so we can purchase enough ingredients and supplies for everyone.

TONIGHT (Thursday, June 4) is the final day to register for the Summer Reading Program and log your reading to be eligible for Week 1 prizes and our grand prize drawings.

Did Friday morning arrive a little too fast and you're worried you missed out? Don't panic! ๐Ÿ˜Š

๐ŸŒŠ What an incredible afternoon!

A huge thank you to the National Mississippi River Museum & Aquarium for bringing their stingray friends to Urbana today!

Our young explorers learned all about these amazing animals, asked fantastic questions, and even had the opportunity to gently touch a real stingray.

From discovering how stingrays move and eat to seeing them up close, this was a hands-on learning experience our community won't soon forget.

Thank you to everyone who joined us at the Urbana Community Center and helped make this program such a success. We love bringing unique educational experiences to our community, and today's program was definitely one to remember!

Would you know what to do in an emergency?

Each year, approximately 300,000 out-of-hospital cardiac arrests occur in the United States. Sudden cardiac arrest can happen anywhere, at any time, and to anyone. Quick action can save a life.

๐Ÿ†˜ If someone experiences sudden cardiac arrest:

โ˜Ž๏ธ Call 9-1-1
๐Ÿซ€ Start CPR
โšก Use an AED

At Urbana Public Library, we are prepared for emergencies. Our emergency response station includes:

โœ” AED (Automated External Defibrillator)
โœ” Narcan
โœ” Stop the Bleed Kit
โœ” Portable First Aid Kit

๐Ÿ“ These supplies are located on the south wall of the library, clearly visible from the building entrance and mounted at an accessible height for all patrons.

We encourage everyone to take a moment to notice where emergency equipment is located when visiting public buildings. In an emergency, knowing where to find these lifesaving tools can make all the difference.

A special thank you to the Iowa Heart Foundation for providing our library and community with an AED through their grant program. Their support helps ensure that lifesaving equipment is available when every second counts.

We would also like to thank Benton County Iowa Public Health Department for providing CPR, AED, Narcan, and Stop the Bleed training to our staff. Their training helps ensure that our team is prepared to respond confidently during an emergency.

As grading wraps up on the west side of the library this week, work will begin on the east side of the property.

Patrons may park in any open spaces that have already been graded and are accessible.

For everyone's safety, please do not allow children to use the new ramps for bicycle, scooter, skateboard, or other riding tricks. These areas are part of an active construction site and are not intended for play.

๐Ÿ“ข Program Location Reminder!

Tomorrow's program (Thursday, June 4) will be held at the Urbana Community Center and begins at 2:00 PM.

โฐ Library closes at noon for program setup.

For children walking or biking, staff will begin assisting children across Sunset Street at 1:40 PM. Staff will be available along the route from Richland Avenue, the Cedar Valley Nature Trail, and West Main Street to help everyone arrive safely.

Parents are welcome to drop off and pick up directly at the Community Center.

There is heavy machinery currently in use on the WEST side of the library property, between the library building and the park.

For everyoneโ€™s safety, please do not allow children to use the WEST or NORTH side of the lot to travel between the library and park areas.

Please use the Cedar Valley Nature Trail as the safe walking route during construction activity.
