Today is Juneteenth and World Sickle Cell Day! Did you know that the only possible cure for the sickle cell is a transplant? However, 75% of Black/African American/Caribbean individuals are unable to find a matching donor. Join the registry to help increase racial and ethnic diversity in the worldwide marrow registry to ensure that everyone who needs a transplant will have an opportunity to find a matching donor! .giftoflife

This cutie is Mylz. He is only 1.5 years old and back in February he was diagnosed with Leukemia. His specific cancer is chemo resistant so he needs a marrow transplant and CAR T-cell therapy to survive.

His best bet of finding a match is with someone with his same genetic makeup. Since he is African American & white, his best match will most likely be with someone that is biracial. However, the multiracial community only has a 25% chance of finding their match.

Please consider joining the registry today to help Mylz.

Stem cells are unique cells: They have the ability to become many different types of cells, and can replicate rapidly. ⏩ They also play a huge part in the body’s healing process, and the introduction of new ones shows great promise in the treatment of many conditions.
For many blood cancer patients there is hope of a cure through a peripheral blood stem cell transplant. Today, transplantation, of healthy stem cells donated by related and unrelated volunteers, offers hope to many patients suffering from these sometimes deadly diseases.

Human leukocyte antigen or HLA 🦠 is used to match patients and donors. 👨↔️👩‍🦰 HLA are proteins (or markers) found on most cells in your body. 🧪 There are many HLA markers, and different people can have different patterns of the markers.

HLA markers are a way for your immune system to tell which cells belong in your body and which ones don’t. Your immune system knows which pattern of HLA markers is normal for your body. If it finds a cell that has a different pattern of markers, it will attack and kill the cell. 🙅‍♀️This is why it’s important that your HLA markers are as similar to the patient’s as possible.

It’s , the global day of giving! Even when life seems uncertain, we have the power to act and provide life-saving solutions. Together.

Your contribution helps us find marrow donors like Sterling who flew 5,000 miles to donate mid-pandemic to save the life of someone she never met!
This year we are excited to announce that we have supporters offering $10,000 in matching gifts!

You can double your donation and help us reach our fundraising goal of $20,000 which will add new donors to the registry!⁣

If you haven't heard...👂 Today is ! A day dedicated to giving back. 💝
We want to share with you a video of one of our amazing donors whose life work is centered around helping others. Grant has seen many others go through the process of donating, but knowing that the odds of matching someone are low, he did not really expect to have the opportunity...That changed in February 2020.
Watch Grant's story below which includes, traveling during a pandemic, a fear of needles and a sweet puppy at the end!
This year we are excited to announce that we have supporters offering $10,000.00 in matching gifts! 🎉
