Transforming Healthcare in South Sudan JDF's clinic, the Duk Lost Boys Clinic, is located in John's home village of Duk Payuel in Jonglei State.

The John Dau Foundation is fulfilling the dream of Lost Boy and genocide survivor John Dau to provide healthcare in the war-torn region of South Sudan by building and sustaining medical clinics and training community health workers. It has treated over 110,000 patients for curative care, and reached thousands more in preventative services like vaccinations, education campaigns and training.

Duk Payuel, Duk Lost Boys Hospital— This maternity ward, once shattered by the 2013 conflict, has now been now being lovingly restored, a beacon of hope rising from the shadows of hardship. Soon, we will begin renewing the surgical ward, and with God’s grace, we dream of revitalizing the entire hospital. Our vision is a sanctuary of healing where the people of Duk, Twi, Uror, Bor, Ayod, Nyirol, Akobo, Pibor, and all across South Sudan can find comfort and care. We are deeply grateful to our steadfast partners — IOM, Community Chiefs, SIDA, and the generous donors from the USA — whose firm support is breathing life into this dream. Together, we are nurturing a brighter, healthier future.

These vibrant photos and videos powerfully demonstrate the incredible potential that our land holds. The JDF farm in Wunbiong, near Poktap, Duk County, has been successfully harvested over the past two days, marking a groundbreaking milestone for our community. This pilot project faced drought challenges head-on and emerged as a shining example of what resolute persistence and innovation can achieve. Nearly everyone in Poktap and neighboring villages has now experienced and tasted the bounty of this corn harvest.

As we look ahead, we passionately call upon the people of Duk and surrounding counties to prepare for the upcoming planting season with renewed energy and vision. This is our moment to transition from reliance on aid to building a future rooted in self-reliance and sustainable growth. Our deepest gratitude goes to WFP and ACF for their invaluable support in making this vision a reality.

The success of JDF is undeniable—now is the time to rally behind JDF as we step boldly into 2027 and beyond. Duk Payuel, Duk County: Yes, while our primary focus is on delivering medical services, we also cultivate food in and around our facilities. This is Duk Lost Boys Hospital in Payuel, where our dedicated staff planted and tended to these crops despite the challenges of drought. Thanks to all JDF team in Payuel especially our strong security guards with CO Alier Garang’s leadership.

Poktap, Duk County: For everyone following the JDF Agriculture maize pilot project since we started, the drought has severely impacted our efforts, but we remain steadfast and determined. This 10 fedans planted in the beginning of August and the land here is very fertile, and despite the challenges, we believe that with God’s will, next year will bring a significant difference. Thank you to Deng Majok, Dau, Mayak, and the entire team for the outstanding work.

With hope and excitement, we see the JDF Nutrition Center taking shape in Panyook, Uror County—a symbol of healing and care. The centers in Paluony, Jokrial, and Pakam are also progressing well, each offering a promise of brighter days ahead. Soon, our nutrition center initiative will expand to Duok, Guiy, Juet, and three additional locations in Uror, bringing food, warmth, and support to more people. We are deeply grateful to the compassionate commissioner of Uror and the wise chiefs, whose generous gift of land in Yuai gives us the opportunity to build an office where our mission can be monitored and supported. We also sincerely thank SSHF for its strong support of JDF. Together, we are growing the seeds of wellness and community care.
