The Census is an essential tool for understanding our communities and helping shape their future. But long before the modern Census, ʻUmi-a-Līloa recognized the importance of counting his people to understand his realm's needs and resources.

Since 1988, Papa Ola Lōkahi has worked to improve the health and well-being of Native Hawaiians. Proposed changes to federal Census rules could affect how our communities are counted, represented, and understood, with implications for Native Hawaiian health and well-being.

We encourage our community to learn about these proposed changes and submit a public comment by November 2, 2026.

We are excited to announce that the Ka‘ōnohi Awards will be held at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Coral Ballroom in April 2027. These awards honor the profound impact of Dr. Alexander Friedenburg Ka‘ōhi‘ai Ka‘ōnohi, a practitioner who integrated traditional Hawaiian healing with Western naturopathy.

We are currently accepting nominations for honorees who have made significant contributions to uplifting the health and well-being of our communities.

Dr. Arvin’s research examines the ways Native Hawaiian children were institutionalized during Hawaiʻi’s territorial era and the systems of education, labor, and government that shaped their experiences.
