Hello friends! If you are doing some fall cleaning, or are looking for ways to help the folks who come to Loaves and Fishes, here are some current needs of ours. If you would like to donate an item/items feel free to drop them off (or have them mailed to) the Dorothy Day house at 1712 Jefferson st duluth mn. Our front door is currently under construction, so please knock on the back door instead, or give us a call at +12187242054.
(We no longer need a vacuum)

Due to unhealthy air quality in Duluth we have made the difficult decision to cancel our annual block party. We love this annual event and it is our hope to pull it all together again later this summer/fall. Stay tuned for more info coming soon! Stay safe everyone!

The Loaves and Fishes community in Duluth is looking for new live-in (and non-live-in) volunteers who are looking to be of service and help people dealing with homelessness, in a supportive and loving community environment, located on Jefferson street, three blocks from beautiful Lake Superior.

Loaves and Fishes is an intentional community, where live-in volunteers live in community, and provide in-house transitional housing and support to homeless individuals and families, as well as maintain a community garden, and a bike cave where we fix and give away free bikes.

Loaves and Fishes consists of 4 houses. Olive Branch House provides both live-in transitional sober housing and drop-in hospitality to homeless women and families. Dorothy Day House provides the same type of hospitality to men. Hannah House offers foster care and houses a volunteer family and their children. Bread and Roses serves as a volunteer house and hub, where live-in volunteers can take a break at, socialize and recharge, and occasionally offers hospitality to former guests, volunteers and activists.

Our community has been around for over 30 years. There are currently ten adults and 3 children in our live-in community. Additionally we have a variety of wonderful non-live-in volunteers who lend support to the houses of hospitality. Our current live-in community member ages range from people in their 20s-70s, including single people, couples and families, of all orientations.

Our community origins and work is rooted in the catholic worker movement, however is secular in function, and we have community members of various religions and beliefs. We value community health and are mindful about creating time together for connection and joy. Volunteers receive free room and board, and are encouraged (but not required) to have part time employment or school.

Hi! Looking to help your homeless neighbors and build community in your life? Loaves and Fishes is looking for new local or live-in volunteers who are looking to be of service and help people dealing with homelessness at our family-style houses of hospitality, or at our bike cave.

We are looking for local volunteers who are interested in taking on shifts at our houses of hospitality on a weekly or monthly basis, or who are interested in lending a hand with house, garden or bike maintenance, providing childcare, fundraising or dropping off meals.

A shift at our men's house, or our women and families house, can vary slightly depending on the day. A shift can consist of 3-5 hours of chatting with guests, cooking a meal or cleaning, entertaining children, birthday parties and celebrations, and lending an ear to someone going through hardship.
