Last Wednesday we gathered for an in-depth presentation and discussion on ARC-Southeast’s 2026 Mid-Year Report. To open the space, we invited ancestor, writer, and anthropologist Zora Neale Hurston to ask folks what this year has represented to them.

We know folks have navigated loss and transformation that's clarified their worldview. Others have deepened commitments and care networks that sharpened their values. What's all the same is how many of us still prioritize a future where Southerns have access to abortion care.

To our supporters, volunteers, and staff, thank you for answering this call. We have more questions about what the future holds for us but we're thankful for the relationships we've built over the years and the answers we'll uncover together.

We want to thank everyone that attended our doula mixer. It was a night of celebration and renewed commitment.

"As RJ practitioners it is vital for us to embody all reproductive justice tenets. Over 65% of our callers are already parents and childcare is an intended gap that the state creates. As we have mapped this project it is abundantly clear that childcare disparities exist not only for abortion seekers but for those providing the care as well.

The mixer was full of intentional conversation about what it means to move this movement forward and how to truly be collaborative. Our hearts are filled with an overwhelming sense of gratitude. To be in the room where it happens!"

For Black Breastfeeding Week we want to give a special shout out to the Obsidian Milk Collective (OMC). OMC is a Black-led organization, based in Alabama, bringing lactation justice to the South.

"We cannot celebrate Black Breastfeeding without confronting the systems that determine who gets to start, who gets supported enough to continue, and who has access to skilled lactation care when things get hard. Tell us in the comments - What was the last thing you dedicated your full attention to studying?

Two of the internal study sessions we've held with staff this year included reading "Organization Means Commitment" by Grace Lee Boggs, and "Enemies & Friends: Resolving Contradictions" by Safiya Bukhari. We read, we discuss, we listen, and we take with us the lessons we can!

On this last day of Black August, we encourage everyone to take the principle of "study" beyond a single month. Think about how you learn, share, and use knowledge for your community. There's a war for our attention spans right now, and as reproductive justice advocates, it's up to us to lock in and commit to political education with a purpose.

Today on Trans Flag Day, we call on our fellow RJ advocates to reflect beyond Pride. The history of Pride is still not widely known. In many schools across the country, talking about q***r history is criminalized. TLGBQIA+ movement leaders have much to teach us and without incorporating their knowledge our work cannot grow. When we study and know our history, we can apply it towards the future. Now more than ever it's crucial to to see the fight for trans liberation as a connected and prominent part of our struggle for reproductive justice.
