Greater Akron Young Marines

Good afternoon. For those still follow our page, we have merged our unit with Chesty Puller Young Marines. I just wanted you all to know we are still around and still recruiting in the area. We currently drill at the Ravenna VFW on Tuesdays from 6-8pm. We currently have 18 Young Marines and 14 Recruits from Richfield, Canton, Akron, Cuyahoga Falls, Green, Copley, Ravenna and Newton Falls. I may have missed a few, but as you can see we are spread out.

We have a great staff running to accommodate this growth. You may still message here but for direct contact to our unit, please follow Chesty Puller Young Marines.

While I know this is a bit further from our Akron location, we tried to do all we could to save all the kids in both units. Transportation sometimes plays a factor for parents as unfortunately we can’t provide transportation services.

We are targeting a next recruit class late summer and already have some signed up. If you or your child are interested in joining, check out our page. We’ve posed some good things from the last several months.

Tonight two of our Young Marines Gunnery Sergeant Osborne and Lance Corporal Herron had the opportunity to help in the retirement of flags at the American Legion in Cuyahoga Falls!

Tonight The Greater Akron Young Marines had their graduation/ promotion ceremony! Congratulations to Those who Graduated Pvt. Baron-Sigler, Pvt. Evan's, and Pfc Lewandowski (Honor Graduate) Those who Promoted were Cpl Rock, Cpl Scott and SSgt Osborne!

YM Sgt Osborne and YM LCpl Rock are having an awesome experience at Adventure Links. This is one of the many experiences these kids get to enjoy being part of the Young Marines program.

Yesterday our Greater Akron Young Marines participated in the Stow 4th of July Parade!! It was a hot one, they all did a wonderful job and marched 2.5 miles!! So proud of our color guard, young marines and recurits!!

Young Marine GySgt Moore and Young Marine Sgt Osborne attended the National Leadership schools in Oregon this last week. What a great experience for these kids to meet other Young Marines from all over the country and learn life changing leadership skills they will carry with them throughout their lives. The Young Marines completed activities to include physical fitness, land navigation courses, uniform inspections and several hours of knowledge from classroom activities. These skills will be brought back to the unit and used to help them lead their unit.

We were missing quite a few due to leadership school, vacations and overheated cars, but these troopers made it through the heat to let the community of Wadsworth know who we are in the Blue Tip Parade. 93 degrees and they handled it. Can’t say the same for the Jeep. It said it was too hot and refused to march on. Maybe next parade. Proud of these four and a big thank you to the Staff for making this happen on this hot, first day of summer, day. Semper Fi!

We had some visitors at drill tonight from the East High School Marine Corps JROTC . They were assisting our Young Marines with color guard and teaching drill movements to our new recruits. Kids enjoy peer teaching and I am so grateful are able to work together as a team.

Greater Akron Young Marines and Greater Lorain Young Marines did this event today they were Balloon runners they changed out balloons in between Runs!! This was a really awesome experience!! Everyone had a great time! They work together as teams and had to stay on their toes and be ready to run to switch out balloons that had been hit from the run before!
