Penobscot Valley Senior College Penobscot Valley Senior College offers stimulating, fun, accessible, life-long learning courses for older adults in the Penobscot Valley region. COURSES.

Penobscot Valley Senior College provides adults with many fun-filled opportunities to learn everything you have always wanted to know about a wide array of facinating topics. The curriculum is designed especially for people who are 50 years old or older. Members may take courses at other Senior Colleges in the Maine Senior College Network. TO BE A MEMBER, you must be at least 50, or be the spouse/

partner of a member that age. An annual membership is required. Annual Membership Fee: $25 ($40 for two people living together), Fee covers our fiscal year of July 1 to June 30. Membership allows access to programs of all senior colleges in the Maine Senior College Network. No college experience needed! Bring your life experience! We offer an array of topics on the arts, natural sciences and more. We have two sessions, fall (late September to early November) and spring (late February to early April). Each session is six weeks, two hours per week. Fees: $30 per course for most courses, including learning materials. Those requiring creative supplies or field trips may cost a bit more. Locations: Most sessions are held in accessible college classrooms at the University of Maine, the University of Augusta's Bangor campus, or another facility. Homework and Attendance: No tests! No grades! Reading is minimal except for literature courses. Attendance is voluntary. If you need to miss a class, it’s okay. Field Trips: A few courses may involve visiting other sites. Class members usually carpool for sites outside of the area. To keep costs down, buses are rarely provided. ONE-DAY EVENTS. We also offer short programs on special topics. Some events are open only to members due to space limitations. For others, members are welcome to bring guests. Events are usually free and two hours long, morning or afternoon. Occasionally, an all-day excursion involving a fee may be offered. OTHER BENEFITS. Memo for Members, PVSC’s newsletter, by e-mail or by postal mail
Annual Meeting and Luncheon for members only in September. Discounted tickets, by showing your PVSC membership card, for MetLive HD and Bangor Symphony performances at the Collins Center for the Arts. Maine Association of Retirees members may receive reimbursement for up to $15 for one Maine Senior College course registration per year.

Bangor Beautiful recently planted 16 trees along Main Street, Bangor, near one of their art installations.

One of PVSC’s field trips this summer is a walking tour of several of Bangor Beautiful Art installations (Aug 6). Registration opens June 1st at https://pvscmaine.org/courses/.

History buffs, over the next two weeks, AARP is showing two films online that might be of interest to you. These free films (you can register after creating a free account) are part of AARP's Movies for Grown-Ups series. 'The WASPs: Taking Flight', May 26, 8 p.m., tells the story of the Women’s Airforce Service Pilots program in WWII. 'Jimmy in Saigon', June 1, 8:00 p.m., is a highly awarded documentary a personal exploration into the mysterious death and radical life of Jimmy McDowell, an American 24-year-old Vietnam veteran who died as a civilian in Saigon in 1972.
