Finish the Mission Veteran Relief Fund FTM is a 100% volunteer organization. Our vision is
to create a community that remembers, honors, and
supports Veterans.

Finish the Mission is dedicated
to West MI Veterans by developing strategic
partnerships and resources to enhance their
quality of life, remembering their sacrifice through
ceremony, and acknowledging their service through
events and community outreach. To achieve this vision, we hold
an annual Gold Star Family Dinner to engage our
honorees’ families, support activities at the Grand
Rapids Home fo

r Veterans and other community
outreach projects, and host our signature event,
the Freedom Cruise. We also provide financial support to Veterans and
Veterans’ organizations. We collaborate and partner
with local organizations to form a “safety net”
approach: we provide additional protection for local
Veterans from hardship and loss in areas not covered
by traditional means. FTM helps cover monetary
shortfalls that come up for Veterans and their families
in everyday life. Some of our partners include:
• Kent County Veterans Treatment Court
• West Michigan Veterans Coalition
• Blue Star Mothers of America
• Mustard Seed Ministries
• Inner City Christian Federation
• Grand Rapids Home for Veterans
• United Veterans Council of Kent County

Please mark your calendars for the Freedom Cruise Portrait Ceremony on Friday, September 5th, 2025 at Sparta High School.

This years Portrait Recipient is Rachel Ganczewski of Sparta whose husband Steven was tragically killed, while serving our country in Iraq, in 2005. Steven was on his 7th deployment in Iraq, and he was only 22 years old.

Steven is true American hero alongside our previous ten honorees!

Many in the Sparta area know Rachel from her years teaching special education and her volunteer work with the Sparta Fire Department. Right after 9-11, Rachel enlisted in the Army but only after her parents signed a waiver because she was too young to enlist. She then met Steven in Flight School, they married and started a family.

We will be posting Stevens Bio soon.

Once again, this year’s event will start with a procession of GoldStar families and WW II Veterans, es**rted by area law enforcement and motorcycle clubs including the Patriot Guard and American Legion Riders.

The es**rt will travel through area schools where students will be excused from class to stand along service drives, holding flags and honoring those families on the Limo Bus, who have suffered un fathomable losses.

Times and route will be posted here, leading up to the portrait ceremony in the Sparta High School Auditorium on Friday, September 5th.

The event last year in Comstock Park, honoring one of their own, Marine Captain Miguel Nava was incredible and we hope Sparta will match the love and support they showed the Nava family along the route, and at Comstock Park High School.
