Hi Friends- if you’re in the Bridgton ME area this month, please know that Hannaford’s in Bridgton is donating $1 to Team Long Run for every Bloomin’ for Good bouquet they sell. Nice bunch of flowers to brighten your day! Thanks!

Hey everybody - what a great week for Team Long Run! We’re so happy to report that we (you) were able to raise 82% of our Giving Tuesday goal of $30,000. Our experience for the past few years shows that more donations are already on their way, and will continue to arrive in our PO Box until the end of the year. So, a huge thank you to everyone who chipped in. Every single donation makes a difference, and we know that a $10 donation might be a stretch for some budgets. We are very grateful.

We’ve had a wonderful start to Giving Tuesday this year, thank you all for your support! The work you enable by donating makes a real difference for the lives of kids here in rural Maine.

This video says it all: That we work with our Head Start partners and Title 1 schools in rural Maine to get books into the homes of thousands of kids who have few, if any. (Close to 17,000 to date). That we’ve been doing this for a while. (8 years). And that we’ve seen the effect that books in the home and active play programs have in high poverty homes. (A greater readiness to learn and succeed at school and JOY!). Now it’s your chance to give, or give again. We can’t do this without generous donors, whatever that means to your personal budget. We thank you, on Giving Tuesday, and every day in between! With love from all of us ❤️ Hilary and Chuck.

Hey everybody-

Giving Tuesday keeps coming faster and faster every year, which is a good thing... as we’ve just about spent every nickel we raised last year! But I’m not sure spending is the right word. Whenever we repair our house, or make an improvement, we don’t call it spending. We call it investing.

At Team Long Run, our work is an investment of money, time, and effort, an investment in future wellbeing, opportunity, productivity, and joy. Who benefits? It looks like it’s just the kids we work with, and honestly, that would be enough. But the benefits reach way beyond them. We benefit, because our work is a mission... it gives us great satisfaction. There are immediate and downstream benefits to families, schools, towns, the world. The ripples are strong, and we hope they serve to shake things up.

And we think our donors benefit. By investing in our work, donors are able to leverage their dollars into real impact: kids become better readers, better students. They have fun being active.

Please consider chipping in this Tuesday through the link in our bio. A lot of our 2026 operating budget is funded this week, and we hope to raise $30,000 so that we may continue our programs at the same scale without a hiccup.

Thanks!

Hi everybody! It’s that time of year and we’re launching our fourth Back to School campaign for TLR and the kids (and teachers) we support here in rural Maine.

Much of the funding for the kids in our local Head Starts and Title 1 elementary schools is uncertain at best this year. And as important as the books we give to kids through their teachers is almost as important is the fact that they know someone cares, someone who doesn’t know them personally but is generous enough to give them a book they can love.

Over the years, we’ve been able to get a jump on our early-literacy programs with help from friends like you. Most of our income doesn’t arrive until the holidays, so this campaign has really grown in impact and importance. Early gifts equal early academic success. You can support this campaign at teamlongrun.org. We (and our kids) thank you in advance.

One of our core principles here at Team Long Run is "Listen to smart people." We asked our partners how we could help the most, and one of them suggested we develop and provide a program that helps graduating pre-schoolers cross the bridge to kindergarten.

It didn't take long to figure out that with a little tweak here and there we could provide them with the materials and confidence to walk into kindergarten on the first day like heroes.

Kids begin with our Sizzle and Pop program at home, before they even reach Head Start classrooms. Once they're in the classroom, they become experts at the short, fun exercises that level them out and get them "ready to learn." When they get to kindergarten, they find Sizzle and Pop posters on the walls and teachers that already know the moves.

We also provide the kids with books for their home libraries that they are sure to find in the kindergarten classroom library. How do we know? We've asked the teachers. It's like walking in on the first day and seeing an old friend. Teachers report kids smiling and saying, "I know that book!" Again, already an expert.

Thanks so much for helping us continue to develop and provide these programs for so many kids that really need the boost. You can still contribute to our Giving Tuesday campaign until the end of the week, and your donation will be doubled!

All our best,

Chuck and Hilary and the whole TLR team.

We're off to a great start on this Giving Tuesday appeal, and we're very grateful to all of you who have already given. Thank you!

I'm so immersed in the daily work here at Team Long Run that it's always fun (and always educational) to hear the perspective of someone else on our team. After a recent meeting, we asked one of our board members if he'd be willing to share why he supports Team Long Run. He says it so well that we thought we'd share it with you as well.

Andy has been on our team for several years. A recent emigre to Maine (but with deep Maine roots and experience), Andy has a clear message about what's at stake and how we make a difference.

You might be interested in how far a dollar goes in our work, and I'll shed some light on our numbers. We work with just over 2000 kids. Our most expensive programs are our early literacy programs. We buy books for the kids that have been selected by their teachers, and those books aren't cheap. Our average cost is roughly $15 per book, per child. Since we get a book for every kid in a school, we're often spending $5000 per distribution. We like to do as many distributions as we can in a year, so you can see this adds up quickly. We like to have an "extra" $10,000 in the bank before we add a new school, because once we start with a school, we feel we need to reinforce and honor that commitment over time.

Our active play programs are much less costly. It's really just teacher training and display materials. But it still costs money.

So, as our Giving Tuesday campaign rolls along, please consider chipping in. $15 makes a difference, especially for the kid being handed what may well be the first book he or she has ever owned. $600 may cover an entire grade.

Thank you so much.

Chuck and Hilary and the whole TLR team.

Hey everyone - we're off and running! Over 2,000 kids in some of the most under-resourced communities in rural Maine count on us to partner with their parents and teachers to help them prepare for happier lives with greater opportunities.

Our programs focus on early literacy and active play, two essential ingredients for early academic success and disrupting generational poverty. We're hoping to raise $25,000 this week to help fund our work. It's a big chunk of our annual budget, and we believe this is a great year to grow... the need is there and we're equipped to help meet it. We'd very much appreciate your help! Thank you.
