Reminder for Alaska PTs, PTAs, OTs, and OTAs: License renewal deadline is June 30, 2026!

As Alaska is now apart of the PT Compact, here are a few important updates regarding fingerprinting and background checks:

✅ Licensees renewing by June 30, 2026, do not need fingerprinting or background checks as part of the renewal process, as long as their license does not lapse. New licensees will need to complete fingerprinting and background checks for initial license.

✅ Current PT Compact PTs/PTAs who have already completed fingerprinting and background checks for compact privileges do not need to complete them again to practice in Alaska.

✅ Alaska PT/ PTA licensees interested in purchasing PT Compact privileges do not need additional fingerprinting or background checks, provided their Alaska license remains active and never lapses.

✅ Once the OT Compact is implemented, Alaska OTs and OTAs whose home state license is Alaska WILL BE required to complete fingerprinting and background checks before purchasing compact privileges in another participating state.

⚠️ If a license lapses and requires reinstatement, fingerprinting and background check requirements may apply depending on the initial license issue date:
• Issued before July 1, 2024: No fingerprinting/background check required.
• Issued after July 1, 2024: Fingerprinting/background checks may be required.

Don’t wait until the last minute—renew on time and keep your license active!

The Special Olympics will be having another screening at their summer games this year. If you are looking for motivation to participate follow this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h1HRLcQs7eM

The screening will be on Saturday, June 6, from 11:00 AM to 5:30 PM at Diamond High School. Shifts are available from 10:30-2:30 and 2:00-6:00 or you can participate for the whole event.

These will be great events that are a fun way to give back to the community. Volunteers are needed for all or part of the day during the events. It is a very simple screening of balance, strength flexibility and aerobic capacity and the athletes that participate are really cool to work with. If you are interested in participating for either event let me know at [email protected]. Thank you for your support!

Still reflecting on how impactful this continuing education course was! So grateful for the opportunity to learn more about motivational interviewing, managing patient expectations, and creating stronger patient-provider relationships through better communication.

This course was such a great reminder that optimizing patient encounters goes far beyond treatment techniques — it’s about understanding the care patients expect to receive and using that in our treatments, building confidence and trust, and helping them feel heard throughout their rehab journey.

Feeling excited and inspired to apply these skills in the clinic this week and continue growing and improving patient care skills. Huge appreciation to Megan Donaldson for an amazing course!

Thanks to all those who came to the social event at Turnagain Brewing as well! What a great weekend!

What an impactful week spent on Capitol Hill, advocating for the future of physical therapy and the communities we get to serve! Our efforts focused on increasing access to physical therapists in medically underserved areas, supporting the Professional Degree Access Restoration Act for PT, working to prevent the proposed Medicare cuts in 2027, and addressing the ongoing challenges related to MPPR.

These conversations were a meaningful opportunity to highlight the critical role physical therapy plays in improving patient outcomes and reducing overall healthcare costs. It was an honor to engage with legislators and their staff, sharing real-world perspectives and reinforcing the importance of policies that support both providers and the patients who rely on us.

We are very proud to advocate for our patients, our profession, and the providers dedicated to delivering high-quality, accessible care every day.
