We are excited to launch our second round of Green Apron, in collaboration with Utah 4-H. Green Apron is a FREE statewide virtual cooking program for youth ages 12–18!
No cooking experience is necessary! Green Apron is designed to help youth become more confident and independent in the kitchen while learning practical ways to prevent food waste at home.
Green Apron: Holidays Around the World
Dates: Mondays, November 2, 9, 16 & 23
Time: 5:00 – 6:00 PM
Ages: 12–18
Location: Virtual
Cost: FREE
Register in Z-Suite: https://4h.zsuite.org/external-event-registration/62987
During the four-week series, youth will cook recipes inspired by different cuisines while developing skills such as reading and adapting recipes, knife skills, using kitchen appliances safely, measuring ingredients, food safety and hygiene, and preparing multi-step meals. They'll also learn strategies for reducing food waste, including "shopping" their pantry, refrigerator, freezer, or garden first; making ingredient substitutions; properly storing and using leftovers; and finding creative ways to use foods they already have.
Registered youth will receive a Green Apron supply box with printed recipes, an apron, meat thermometer, food safety magnet, additional cooking tools, and select ingredients used during the lessons. Families will need to provide the remaining ingredients for each recipe. We intentionally encourage youth to use appropriate ingredients they already have at home whenever possible rather than purchasing everything new.
Our November cook-alongs will feature:
November 2 – Latin Inspired: Mexican Vegetable Casserole + nutrition and MyPlate
November 9 – Asian Inspired: Vietnamese Bowl + cross-contamination, shelf life, and egg safety
November 16 – Mediterranean Inspired: Baked Falafel & Hummus + using long-shelf-life ingredients
November 23 – United States Inspired: Homemade Stuffing + baking techniques, ingredient storage, and reducing bread waste
We hope to see your family there!
