After watching a tv program about food insecurity and researching that it was happening in their community The Curtis family decided to help by contributing a solution directly where the children would be – in their schools. They recognized that teachers see food insecurity in their classrooms every day and try to find ways to combat it with their own resources. Ben and Candace partnered with a lo

cal elementary school principal to develop the Birdie Bag Program. A Birdie Bag contains non-perishable foods and a toiletry kit which is sent home with children in need weekly at regular intervals throughout the school year. Working alongside school principals ensures that all of our programs work for both the schools and our organization. It is vital for children to learn about good nutrition and have access to it. It’s not only a solid foundation for a child’s physical health, but for their mental health and academic potential. We’re always in need of volunteers to help us fill Birdie Bags each month and to help out at our events which raise awareness and the funds needed to beat food insecurity. Because of you, we are able to pack bags, support students, and make a real impact in the lives of children facing food insecurity in our community. We wanted to take a moment to celebrate our Donor Coordinator, Kristen, as she begins an exciting new chapter! 🧡

Kristen has been such a valued member of the Ben Curtis Family Foundation, and we are incredibly grateful for the dedication, passion, and positivity she brought to our team each day. Her contributions have made a meaningful impact on our mission to support children facing food insecurity, and her presence will be truly missed.

While we are sad to see her go, we are so excited for all that lies ahead. We know she will do amazing things in this next journey. Kristen will always be a part of the BCFF family, and we are cheering her on every step of the way.

Our team had the pleasure of attending the Athena Akron, Inc. in Portage County Leadership Forum, and it was truly an incredible event. We were especially proud to support Candace Curtis, Executive Director and Co-Founder of the Ben Curtis Family Foundation, as one of the featured speakers. She shared the stage alongside three other amazing women leaders, making for a powerful and meaningful conversation on purpose-driven leadership. 🧡

Thank you to ATHENA Akron for hosting such an empowering event and for celebrating leadership that creates lasting change. Such an amazing organization, and we are grateful to have been part of it!

Did you know that roughly 20% of kids in Portgage Country face food insecurity? Don’t miss the Kids Helping Kids Maker’s Market at Laziza Craft Kitchen this Sunday, April 12th from 11 AM to 2 PM. Bring your kids to browse creations from local young makers raising money for the incredible . (BCFF helps local children through multiple programs during the school year, the summer, & even at Christmas.) Check out all the goodies on sale, and help raise money for this great cause. (Anyone who brings a donation for BCFF will receive 20% off brunch!)

Birdie Bag Wednesday was a blast this week! We packed 2,720 bags within 56 bins, and it was such a fun day filled with energy, teamwork, and lots of smiles. 🌷

Sara and Nicole had a blast helping out as guest judges at McEbright Elementary School in Akron this past Thursday for their Amazing Shake Competition!! This competition challenges students to develop confidence, professionalism, and real-world skills through interactive scenarios like conversations, problem-solving, and first impressions.

It was incredible to see the kids participate, build confidence, problem-solve, and strengthen their lifelong personal skills! We are so grateful we were asked to help out and to get out in the community supporting the children we serve, and especially grateful for the amazing staff at McEbright for putting together such a meaningful experience for their students! 💙
