Love the Chestertown Dog Park? We’d love to hear from you!

The Friends of the Chestertown Dog Park is looking to welcome a few new members to our Board!

We are a nonprofit organization made up of community members who care about the dog park and work together to help enhance and beautify the park experience for both our four-legged friends and the people who love them. Through projects, improvements, events and community involvement, we help make the dog park an even more enjoyable place to visit.

If you enjoy the dog park, love dogs, and would like to become a little more involved in our community, we’d love to have you join us. You don’t need any special experience just an interest in helping and a willingness to be part of the team.

Interested or curious? Send us a short email telling us a little about yourself and why you’d like to get involved.

Our email address is: [email protected]

And please feel free to share this post with someone you think might be a great addition to our Board!

We look forward to hearing from you!

Turn your favorite pet photo into a beautiful keepsake and support the Friends of the Chestertown Dog Park at the same time! 🐾

Local Rock Hall artist Anne Leone is offering custom pastel pet portraits, created from a photograph of your favorite four-legged (or perhaps not-so-four-legged!) family member.

These original portraits would make such a special addition to your home or a wonderful gift for someone who adores their pet. And even better, a portion of the proceeds from every portrait will benefit the Friends of the Chestertown Dog Park!

The finished portrait is matted to 11” x 14” and is $125.

All the information you need to have your pet painted is on the flyer below. 👇

Please feel free to share this post and help us spread the word. Every portrait helps support a place our dogs and their people!

Dog Park Issues - PLEASE READ

In response to Ann's post from yesterday:

The board of the Friends of the Dog Park have had numerous discussions about this topic recently.

Ann and the members that have responded to her are absolutely correct that there have been increasing problems with users of the park not following some basic rules that are clearly published, especially relating to the size limitations for the small dog park, the requirement to pick up our pets' waste., and the need to keep aggressive dogs out of both parks. These are problems that need to be addressed by ALL.

The board of the park has no legal or physical way to enforce rules. I can tell you that I have had several interactions with people that became confrontational when I've asked them to conform to the rules. It is tempting to avoid the conflict, especially if you are an older person, or by yourself. But something DOES have to happen.

As president of the board, I am in the process of setting up a meeting with the new town manager. This will be high on the priority list and will happen as soon as possible. In addition, I will approach the town council about getting on their agenda for an upcoming meeting to discuss the dog park. When I know the date, I will publish it here and invite as many members as possible to attend with me.

In the meantime, the Chestertown police department has told me to have members contact them directly when needed (hopefully at the time the occurence is happening) and they will come to the park and handle it. I have seem them do this previously. Animal Control will not handle these cases.

In all circumstances, please report violations to the board immediately. We need to be aware of where and when these situations develop so we can at least pass the information on to the town.

We have a wonderful dog park here and we can't let a few inconsiderate people ruin it for us. Thanks to all of you for helping with this.

Chris Taylor

UPDATE: this post is no longer going to have comments allowed. We do not want this to become a negative space for anybody if you do have any comment that you would like to make please send them to our messenger page and we will get back to you. Thank you.

This is a post from our friend Anne Wilson. This was accidentally left as a comment on another post. We feel that it is important to make everybody aware of what is happening around us.

Here is her post….

Today I took my dog to the dog park and there were two big dogs in the small dog park and Then knew Zeus. I took my dog weighing 24 pounds to the big dog park because she has had a bad experience with a big dog and it cost alot of money. She is timid from it back if a dog comes and gets rough with her she barks for it to back off. I look up and see that he brought both dogs in the large park back in the back where we were and Zeus came towards her and O was putting her leash hoping I could get her in the small park. He sniffed her and started nudging so she barked for him to back off but instead attacked. His master tried to call him back he wouldn’t listen. I am trying to pull her in my arms to get out of there and he wants her. I screamed call your dog and come get home. He refused! After I started walking I looked at him and said why didn’t you come get your dog. He wouldn’t respond. This is the third attack that has happened recently for different people and something has to be done. There was no way he was going to get his dog and hold on to him. He stayed back with the other big black dog he had and was not on
Leash. It is being reported. Something has to be done to make this a safe place for our town residents. This is a serious matter. The board and town need to revisit this.
