Gunnison Pioneer Museum Open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. for our 61st season! The Pioneer Society was
reorganized and incorporated as a non-profit organization in 1930.

The Gunnison County Pioneer and Historical Society had its beginning in the 1880
with early pioneers who settled in the Gunnison Valley. From its very beginning the society stated its interest in preserving the history of
the pioneers of Gunnison County and by 1964 the Pioneer Museum was finally begun. The Board of the Society oversees the operation of the Museum which is staffed
mostly by senior

volunteers. These volunteers are happy to answer your questions
as you browse the exhibits at your own pace. The Museum grounds, and most of its over 3 dozen exhibit buildings, the artifacts and memorabilia that make up the many displays have been donated by generous members and friends of the Society. Most of the items on display date back to the early settlers. The Museum's collections truly represent the cultural history and heritage of the people
of Gunnison.

VISIT THE PIONEER MUSEUM!
Open 9 to 5 Monday through Saturday and 1 to 5 on Sundays

These photos will surely conjure up many great memories among long-time locals. Johnson's Restaurant was truly a a Gunnison Country gem going waaaaay back. Amoung the many books pertaining to regional history is one recorded by subsequent owner, Nancy Tredway, and beautifully illustrated by Beth Marcue - "The History of the Johnson Building". We are posting Sarah's coveted Corn Relish recipe (sooooo yummy!) but to read her intriguing stories, you'll have to visit the Museum. (Thank you to the Tredway family and to Anne Michel for being such loving caretakers of the Johnson Bldg. with decades of artwork and community as The Gunnison Gallery.).

GOT MILK??!?
Back in the day, The Gunnison Creamery was your source for all things dairy - including ice cream! The Museum's Old Main building holds a great Creamery display. The business was run for decades by Forrest M. Kelley and family, the Creamery building still stands on west Tomichi, now housing Family Vision Center. His daughters, Jean and Janie Kelley, recently brought in precious old family photos, tools and dance cards from their collection representing Ohio Creek ranching and Western State College history. The Kelley family has certainly left their mark on the Gunnison Country!

This group had a lot to talk about!
