Today, Anita drove away in a 2001 Toyota RAV4!

Without a vehicle, Anita could not reliably get to work and had to depend on others for essential transportation. She shared that reliable transportation would help her family get to work and school, arrive at medical appointments on time, and no longer rely on third-party rides.

This RAV4 was generously donated to the New Heights Auto Ministry, then prepared for Anita with the help of our staff and volunteers. We are especially grateful for Eric, pictured here, who regularly works alongside our auto staff to help rehabilitate donated vehicles and prepare them for their next chapter.

One person donated a vehicle. Another donated his time and skills. Together, they helped provide Anita and her family with greater stability, independence, and hope.

Congratulations, Anita! We are grateful to see you begin this new chapter.

What if some of the most meaningful change happening in our communities is also the hardest to measure?

Later this month, our Executive Director, Chris Britton, will be presenting at PechaKucha Night Benton Harbor. Through a series of fast-paced stories and reflections, Chris will explore how our culture often measures impact through visibility, scale, and recognition…while some of the most transformative work happens quietly, slowly, and relationally.

From transportation and food insecurity to community development in Benton Heights, this talk reflects on what it means to truly invest in people and neighborhoods for the long haul.

We’re grateful for opportunities like this to share the heart behind the work happening through New Heights CCDA and to participate in important community conversations.

We’d love to see you there.

Meet Chris Britton, another of the speakers, joining us on Thursday evening at 7:00 pm at Shadowland Ballroom to share his story.

Chris Britton is the Executive Director of New Heights CCDA in Benton Heights, Michigan, where he leads community development efforts focused on transportation barriers, food insecurity, and long-term household stability. Through programs like New Heights Auto Ministry, the Community Food Network, and the Laundry Hub, Chris works at the intersection of direct service, relationship-based community development, and social enterprise. In addition to his local work, Chris has been involved in social and human services and humanitarian efforts in communities around the world. He is passionate about helping communities rethink how impact is measured and how meaningful change is created.

We’re proud to celebrate Kathy Craig, who was recently honored with the Margaret B. Upton Volunteer Leadership Award, Berrien County’s most prestigious recognition for lifetime volunteer service.

Kathy leads our Community Food Network with a rare combination of vision and humility. Under her leadership, the program has grown into more than a food distribution effort it’s a place where relationships are built, dignity is restored, and neighbors support one another in meaningful ways.

Her impact extends far beyond New Heights, but we see it firsthand every day in the lives of the families we serve.

We’re grateful to see Kathy’s work recognized by the broader community, and honored to have her as part of New Heights.

The United Way of Southwest Michigan has announced the recipients of its annual Volunteer Leadership Awards. United Way Senior Director Zack East tells us the awards were given out at the organization’s Annual Celebration, held on April
