College Tip Thursday: One Last Check Before Move-In 🎓📦

Move-in day is finally here! Whether you're feeling excited, nervous, or a little bit of both, know that what you're feeling is completely normal.

As you're packing up for this new adventure, take a few minutes to double-check that you have the essentials and those easy-to-forget items that can make your first week a lot smoother.

And remember: you don't have to have everything figured out on day one. College is a journey of learning, growing, and discovering who you are. Give yourself grace, be open to new experiences, and take things one day at a time.

We had a great time at Jackson National Insurance for their Lunch & Learn Series!

Lansing Promise shared who we are, eligibility requirements, our expansion, the Summer Melt Program at Lansing Community College, and the impact we’ve made through scholarships to date.

We were also joined by Lansing Promise Board members Guillermo Lopez and Dominic Carbone. Our Executive Director, Scholarship Director, Postsecondary Pathfinder, and College Advisor shared insights on how we support students from scholarship to postsecondary success.

What a wonderful time we had at Everett High School’s Open House on Tuesday!

The Lansing Promise team was excited to welcome students back and celebrate the start of a brand-new school year with some serious Viking spirit. It was especially meaningful to have Lansing Promise Executive Director Jayme A. King there representing Lansing Promise—and as a proud Everett High School Viking herself! Jayme knows firsthand what makes the Everett community so special.

Thank you, Everett High School, for welcoming us and for creating such a positive start to the year. We’re looking forward to all that’s ahead!

Thinking about a technical career?

Join the Sensory-friendly West Campus Labs Open House from 4–6 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 10.

This welcoming event gives individuals with sensory sensitivities the opportunity to explore LCC's West Campus learning labs in a comfortable environment. Lab staff and representatives from the Center for Student Access will be available to answer questions and discuss accommodations.

Explore labs in Automotive, Building Construction, Drones, Electrical, HVAC, Mechatronics & Robotics, Precision Machining, and Welding. A Quiet Room will also be available.

We are thrilled to celebrate our Board member Jessica Benavides on her approval by the Lansing Board of Education as the next superintendent. Jessica has been a steady, student-centered leader throughout her time as an educator and as interim superintendent, and seeing her officially step into the role is a win for the entire Lansing community.
We’ve had the privilege of working alongside Jessica for years, and her commitment to students, families, and educators is unmatched. Congratulations, Jessica — we’re excited for this next chapter and grateful for the leadership you bring to Lansing.

What an incredible night at the Lansing Promise Annual Meeting this past Friday night, July 17th, at Frances Park. The evening was filled with passion, purpose, and the unwavering belief that every student deserves the chance to thrive. Even with the warm Michigan weather trying to steal the spotlight, the night was full of sweat, smiles, and genuine joy.
A heartfelt thank you to our Board Members, Sponsors, Donors, and Community Partners, whose dedication fuels this mission year after year. Your presence was a powerful reminder of what community can accomplish together.
A huge shoutout to our amazing LEAF Scholars who attended and received their scholarships — your hard work, resilience, and dreams inspire everything we do. We are so proud of you.
The brought incredible energy and lit up the evening with an unforgettable performance, making the celebration truly shine.
We also want to extend our gratitude to for the delicious food and to Tracee Faulkner of for the beautiful setup and seamless experience. Your work helped make the night warm, welcoming, and memorable.

What an unforgettable day at the Lansing Promise Golf Classic 2026 on Thursday, July 17th! We want to start with a huge, heartfelt shoutout to Chris Holman, who has dedicated ten incredible years to organizing this event and making it one of the most impactful traditions supporting Lansing Promise. His leadership, passion, and commitment continue to elevate the experience year after year. The course was alive with energy, friendly competition, and nonstop smiles as golfers enjoyed great shots, great conversations, a few big wins with gift certificates for top scores, and, of course, a Hungry Howie’s pizza for everyone — thanks to Dominic Carbone for keeping this tradition delicious.
Before the game, our team and community leaders shared inspiring updates about the life-changing work Lansing Promise is doing for Lansing School District students. Hearing how these opportunities are opening doors and shaping futures reminded us why this event matters so deeply. We also want to extend a sincere thank you to all of our sponsors who supported Lansing Promise by playing in the Golf Classic — your commitment fuels real impact, and we are truly grateful. And a special thank you to our celebrity golfers for bringing extra excitement to the course; we’re already looking forward to having them back again next year.
